Sushma Swaraj likely to meet Pak PM adviser in Nepal

Pakistan has approached India via diplomatic channels to schedule a meeting between India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan PM’s adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz. The meeting between the two has been proposed for 17 March and is expected to be scheduled during their stay in Pokhara, Nepal. Additionally, Aziz would also be meeting foreign ministers of all SAARC countries in order to extend official invitations to their respective Heads of Government for the 19th SAARC Summit that is to be hosted by Pakistan.

Sensex fell by 61 points during early trade

Amid retail inflation falling down to a three-month low in February, the BSE Sensex has fallen by about 61 points in early trade. The 30-share barometer traded down by 60.95 points to close at Rs. 24,743.33 with FMCG, oil & gas, healthcare, power, FMCG and metal sector stocks being the major losers. The NSE Nifty also went down by 31.25 points to close at Rs. 7,507.50.

One Plus 2 price slashed in India

Today, OnePlus announced a price cut on its 2015 flagship for the Indian markets with the 16 GB OnePlus 2 smartphone now available at Rs. 20,999 and the 64 GB version available at a price of Rs. 22,999. The Chinese startup has quoted the rising operations as the key reason behind the price drop. Also, the company has hinted the introduction of a new flagship very soon.

India bans Vicks Action 500 Plus

Citing potential health risk, regulators have banned Vicks Action 500 Extra with immediate effect. Procter & Gamble’s India unit has stopped manufacturing and selling this cough-and-cold medicine instantly. The drug is one of the 344 drug combinations that include several antibiotics and analgesics that have been ordered by India to be prohibited quoting that a government-elected panel of experts has found the combinations lacking “therapeutic justification”.

Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus now in India

The budget smartphone from Lenovo, Vibe K5 Plus has been launched in India. Available at a price of Rs. 8,499; the smartphone can be exclusively purchased from Flipkart on 23 March, starting from 12:00 p.m. IST. As the successor to the Lenovo A6000 and Lenovo A6000 Plus; Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has India as its first launch market. Dolby Atmos-enabled stereo speakers and aluminium casing are the two highlights of Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus.

3 Congress MLAs suspended for 6 months

Tearing a copy of the governor’s address led to suspension of three Congress MLAs for a duration of six months. Haryana speaker suspended three MLA’s identified as Jagbir Malik, Kuldeep Sharma and Jaiveer Singh. In addition to this, thirteen Congress leaders including a few MLAs were also detained from outside the Haryana Vidhan Sabha in lieu of their protest.

BSE Sensex expected to open on a flat note

Both BSE Sensex and Nifty would be opening on a flat note tracking the flat Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange amid the subdued global cues. While the Nifty futures traded on Singapore Stock Exchange went marginally higher by 0.08 per cent to close at Rs. 7,552; the other Asian stock markets braced for effective execution of policy announcements from world’s major central banks.

Air India changes its menu for Delhi-London flight

After remaining unaltered for a span of ten years, menu on Air India’s (AI) flights from Delhi to London has now undergone a change. The new chairman and managing director of Air India airlines, Ashwani Lohani has ordered a quick change in the rules that allow regional offices to take a rapid call on the in-flight menu issue. He has shown full support in bringing out quick and in line changes to the airlines’ food for the comfort of passengers.

JNU panel calls for rustication of Kanhaiya & 4 others

An inquiry panel set up by Jawaharlal Nehru University has recommended the rustication of five students including Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya in lieu of February 9 campus event where these students allegedly shouted anti-national slogans. On the basis of inputs received from this panel, JNU has issued showcase notices to twenty one students for their inappropriate behaviour on February 9.
