JD-U ends alliance with BJP after 17 years

The JD-U broke 17 year tie up with the BJP today after a prolonged period of tension. This can be perceived as a major split in the Opposition.

Sharad Yadav the JD-U President also resigned from the post of convenor of the NDA led by the BJP.

The JD-U is the 14th party to split from the NDA, which was formed in 1998. In fact, it is the oldest ally of the BJP. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has demanded that Nitish Kumar should resign. The problems within the alliance started when Modi was made the public face by the BJP for the 2014 elections and JD-U strongly opposed that. 

500 quintals of harvested paddy damaged in Odisha

Many bags of harvested paddy weighing at least 500 quintals which were lying in the open got damaged by heavy rains in Kalahandi, Rayagada and Koraput in Odisha.

The state has been experiencing torrential rain since four days due to formation of a low pressure belt. Standing paddy crops in more than 1000 acres has also been damaged. Standing and harvested Rabi crops have also been damaged but the assessment for the same is yet to be done. Rains are supposed to have damaged as many as 1000 houses in the three districts.

Ratan Tata, the chief advisor to the board of AirAsia India

Ratan Tata was appointed the chief advisor to the board of AirAsia India. AirAsia's Tony Fernandes declared on Twitter about this development and the chairman’s appointment is due in a day or two.

He stated that Tata’s experience will be critical to the airline’s growth in India though Fernandes wanted Tata to take over as the chairman.

AirAsia has 49% in the joint venture collaboration with the Tatas who have 30%. Fernandes was also asked whether cheap fare suitably named Nano fare can be expected from the airlines taking the cue from Tata’s cheapest car, Nano.

Fernandes stated that that may be the thing in the future.

Hrithik will do promotion for "Krrish 3" in the world

Hrithik Roshan will promote Krrish 3 in the world and he is supposed to devote a full month for the promotion. The movie is hitting the theaters on November 3 on Diwali and its promotion will start from the first week of October.

Hrithik will go to places like Canada, Britain, Dubai and the US. Krrish 3 will be the sequel to Koi...Mil Gaya and Krrish. The intention is to reach out to fans around the world with the promotion of the movie.

Bopanna and Bhupathi lose in the semifinals of Aegon Championship

Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna could not reach the finals of the Aegon Championships in London after losing to top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in straight sets at the men's doubles semifinal.

The Bryan brothers of US edged past the Indian pair in 41 minutes with 6-4, 6-2 and will now face fourth seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares of Australia and Brazil.

Bopanna and Bhupathi were not in their best elements with three faults in the match and gave the opponents chances to break. That was in the first set and two times in the second test and the US pair did not leave the chance. 

Facebook hashtags: Are they impressive?

The hashtag feature which Facebook introduced this week seems to have captured the imagination of the people. People in their excitement are using the hashtag anytime and anywhere but there are complaints of overuse by some users.

What has to be seen whether this would lead to search benefits.  Though people have started using hashtags to group thoughts. Still, it seems it is a long way to go before the hashtags can be subscribed to follow conversations on Facebook. Another thing to notice is that whether the tags revolutionize Facebook conversations and whether these have any implications on businesses and how these are utilized on the pages.
