UAE beats India 5-0 in Asian Games Championship

Men’s Indian Football team was thrashed by UAE in their opening match in the Asian Games campaign. UAE humiliated India by scoring 5-0 goals. Indian men's football team is now in a tight spot and advancing to the next round seems difficult. UAE took control of this Group G match from the very beginning. The Indian team made some serious blunders from the very start of the game including mispasses, sluggish mid-field, ineffective wings, and many more.   

K Koteshwar Rao vouches for MoM's Success

ISRO Scientific Secretary K Koteshwar Rao has said that it will be the first time in the history of Mars Missions that a Mars mission spacecraft accomplishes the mission in its very first attempt, if Mars Orbiter Mission (MoM) enters the orbit of Mars on September 24, 2014. The Manglayan has already completed its 90 per cent journey to Mars.

Nitin Gadkari Slams Opposition for Contradictions on Amendment of Land Acquisition Law

 Rural development and road transport minister Nitin Gadkari has slammed opposition leaders for taking a contradictory position on amending land acquisition and rehabilitation law. When asked about the allegation of many opposition leaders that the Union Government wants to lower the compensation package to displaced farmers, Gadkari ruled them out.

US places India among 22 Countries Producing or Transiting Illicit Drugs

India has been placed by the USA among the 22 countries that produce or transit 22 major illicit drugs. The Obama administration has recently released the list of these countries and also stated that these countries affect the USA significantly. Some other important country names include Venezuela, Burma, Bolivia, and many more. These countries can be sanctioned by America but Obama himself granted National Interest Waivers under FRAA (Foreign Relations Authorisation Act) to Venezuela and Burma.

Indian PM hails Indo-China Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the ties between China and India on various counts including rich traditions, cultural connect, and history. He emphasised on these points a day before Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Modi’s home state. Indian PM was stressing upon the possibilities of fruitful bilateral ties between both the countries.  

President Pranab Mukherjee begins his Vietnam Visit

 President Pranab Mukherjee is on a 4-day visit to Vietnam and the main agendas of his visit include improved bilateral ties in three main areas – energy, security, and defence. The President will visit few iconic and historical sites in Ho Chi Minh City. Mukherjee’s visit to Vietnam at this time assumes increased importance as the movement in South China Sea is a point of contention between Vietnam and China. Vietnam and India signed seven cooperation pacts on maiden air connectivity sectors, oil exploration, and strategic defence procurement on Mukherjee’s first day of visit.  

Indian MNC all set to Buy US-Based Company

Indian IT multinational Cognizant is all set to strengthen its presence in healthcare IT space by buying US-based TriZetto for $2.7 billion, equivalent to Rs 16,510 crore approximately. In terms of acquisition by an offshore-centric Indian IT services company, this deal is going to be the most expensive one till now. Currently, healthcare IT space contributes 26 per cent to the total revenue of Cognizant. After the acquisition, it will increase to 30 per cent.

By-election Result: BJP gets Disappointing Result; SP Rejoices

The overall outcome of by-elections to 33 Assembly constituencies and 3 Lok Sabha constituencies across 10 states of India doesn’t seem to go well for BJP. The biggest drubbing came in Uttar Pradesh where Samajwadi Party won 8 out of 11 seats, which were vacated by sitting BJP MLAs. However, BJP won its first assembly seat in West Bengal in 15 years. Among 9 seats in Gujarat, BJP won 6 and the rest 3 were won by the Congress.

RBI Governor Unwilling to Lower Interest Rates

Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan is not in favor of lowering interest rates because he feels the fight against inflation is far from over. Just two weeks before the monetary policy review, RBI governor hinted that repo rate may remain unchanged. While he expressed his concerns on sluggish growth in investment, he put his weight behind eliminating subsidy on diesel.

India’s merchandise exports rose at the slowest rate in August 2014. The growth rate was just 2.35 per cent. Experts believe this slowdown was because of softening global petroleum prices, on one hand, and economic slowdown in Europe, on the other. Official export data shows, August data increased from $26.33 billion in August 2013 to $26.95 billion in August 2014.

5 Hindalco Bauxite Mines Shut Down by Jharkhand Government

Jharkhand Government, on the basis of report on illegal mining by Shah Commission, has closed down 5 bauxite mines of Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco Industries. The Shah Commission report has alleged that these mines are causing losses to government exchequer as well as environmental damages.
