What Happened on 17 January 2019
With more than a month gone by since 15 labourers were trapped inside a rat-hole mine, one body has been spotted. Earlier today, using underwater ROV, the Indian Navy detected the body, more than 200 feet deep.
"…the body has been pulled up to the mouth of rat-hole mine and shall be extracted out of the mine under the supervision of doctors," tweeted the spokesperson of Navy. The 15 labourers have been trapped in the illegal mine since December 13.
Earlier this morning, the Andaman & Nicobar islands were hit by an earthquake marking a 6.0 on the Richter scale. The epicentre is said to have been the Nicobar islands.
So far, there have been no reports of loss of life or property. There is no alert for tsunami so far, either, according to the Director of INCOIS.
