17 July 2020 Current Events Bengaluru: 97% Corona Patients Died on Ventilator at Victoria Hospital Attached to BMCRI

One of the leading government hospitals in Bengaluru which has been allotted for Covid-19 has seen a 97% fatalities among patients put on ventilators - which is considered to be far in excess of comparative numbers for countries like the UK, US and Italy with high death rates. Victoria Hospital which is attached to Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) has seen 91 deaths since April, of the 89 had been put on ventilators for advanced respiratory support. With the growing number of positive Covid-19 cases, Victoria Hospital which dedicated 1,200 beds for Covid-19 initially, it has now swamped with all its beds which were filled at the beginning of July. The hospital authorities went ahead and confirmed that 95% of the deaths had comorbidities while around 30% were above 60. On the matter, Dr S Sacchidanand, head of the expert panel auditing Covid-19 deaths in Karnataka said that it is yet to analyse the technical reasons behind the high mortality rate at the hospital.
