What Happened on 17 June 2019
As per India Meteorological Department, cyclone “Vayu” lay centered over northeast Arabian sea and its neighborhood, about 280 km west-southwest of Naliya, 260 km west-southwest of Dwarka and 360 km west-southwest of Bhuj on June 17. Moreover, it has turned into a deep depression and is likely to worsen before crossing the North Gujarat coast by June 17 midnight. However, it is reported by the authorities that there is no chance of any major damage in the areas where it is likely to hit.
Maldives agreement with China to build an observatory in Indian Ocean is possibly not on the cards anymore. This agreement between the two countries took place in 2017 when Abdulla Yameen was the Maldivian President. As per the agreement, China was authorized to construct an observatory at Makunudhoo which is in the north. Had it been manifested, it would have been a matter of concern for India since it would allow China to have a significant Indian Ocean shipping route. However, scrapping of the deal after the exit of Yemen from President post is a sigh of relief for India.
