18 December 2018 Current Events Fire breaks out at Government hospital in Mumbai; 8 dead and over 100 injured

A government hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, caught fire late evening on Monday. While it took more than three hours to extinguish the fire, eight people lost their lives - including both patients and visitors.

Over 150 people were rescued from the ESIC Kamgar Hospital, according to the Disaster Management Cell of BMC. The cause of the fire is yet to be known.


1984 anti-Sikh riots: Convicted Sajjan Kumar resigns from Congress

After being a party member for about 40 years, Sajjan Kumar has left Congress, in light of his conviction by the High Court on Monday. The 73-year old has been asked to surrender by December 31st.

"I tender my resignation with immediate effect from the party membership of the Indian National Congress in the wake of the judgment of the high court of Delhi against me", wrote Sajjan in a letter to Rahul Gandhi, the party chief. Kumar is the first major name to be convicted in the 1984 mass murders that took the lives of more than 3000 people.
