BJP, CPI-M yet to decide over Trinamool's no-confidence move

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's decision to bring a no-confidence motion on the first day of winter session did not get support from the BJP or Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).The parties said that the issue was yet to be discussed by them.The Communist Party of India (CPI), specified that it would support the motion if the Trinamool Congress manages the required strength for it to be admitted in the Lok Sabha. The Congress stated that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government having comfortable majority this motion would be defeated.BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said in Kolkata that the Trinamool Congress does not have the required numbers to bring a no-confidence motion to remove the Congress-led central government and BJP was yet to decide whether it would back this move.

Air India announces promotional fares

In order to attract more passengers during the lean January-March season, Air India on Sunday announced promotional fares for more than 325 cities which will be effective between Jan 16 and March 31, 2013.The airlines stated that the sale will offer early bookers great value for money and it is open from Nov 19-21. The one-way fares, inclusive of all taxes, range from Rs.1,799 to Rs.4,199.Some of the fares under the scheme are as follows:Chennai-Delhi: Rs.3,699/-Delhi-Kolkata: Rs.3,699/-Chennai-Mumbai: Rs.2,699/-Delhi-Mumbai: Rs.3,699/-Chennai-Kolkata: Rs.2,699/-Kochi-Trivandrum: Rs.1,799/-Chennai-Pune: Rs.1,799/-Imphal-Gauhati: Rs.1,799/-Kolkata-Bhubaneswar: Rs.1,799/-Mumbai-Ahmedabad: Rs.1,799/-

Two cases registered in Ponty Chadha and his brother's killing

Two murder cases have been filed by the police in connection with the killing of liquor and real estate baron Ponty Chadha and his younger brother Hardeep over the possession of a farmat Chhatarpur in south Delhi. No arrests were made so far.One case was under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and the arms act based on a complaint filed by Ponty's friend Sukhdev Namdhari. The other case was on charges of trespass and murder by Hardeep's manager against Ponty's men.The investigators said that the incident happened after Ponty Chadha arrived at farm no 42 to take its possession while Hardeep was not there. Namdhari, a member of the Uttarkhand Minority Commission, was also there at the farmhouse with Ponty Chadha. Hardeep first opened fire at Ponty and his guard Narender Ahlawat. Then Namdhari's personal security officer fired at Hardeep. After that firing from guards of both sides ensued. Ponty received 12 bullet injuries while Hardeep received eight. Narender also suffered serious injury and is undergoing surgery now as per the police.

India's retail industry to more than double to $1.3 trillion by 2020: FICCI

The size of India's retail industry is projected to more than double to $1.3 trillion by 2020, with an estimated 25 percent average annual growth in organised retail, provided overseas investment is allowed in the sector as per Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The current market size is estimated at $500 billion,so that means there will be an additional $800 billion in the next eight years.The traditional retail industry will grow at an average annual rate of five percent over the next year, while the organised retail is projected to a growth rate of around 25 percent during this period.Almost 94 percent of India's retail industry is unorganized or traditional at present.

England still in the game due to 141-run partnership between Cook and Prior

A spectacular 141-run partnership between skipper Alistair Cook and Matt Prior helped England to cover the deficit and score 340 for five at stumps on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at the Sardar Patel Stadium on Motera in Ahmedabad.Cook (batting 168) and Prior (batting 84) were the main players in England's fightback as the visitors took a 10-run lead.England seemed headed for an innings defeat when the pair faced the score of 199 for five. Both batted with determination and managed to do away with any threat from India's spin twin Pragyan Ojha (2/102) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0/104) -- the later not getting any wicket in the day.

Sunita Willams returns from space with new record

Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams returned to earth after spending 127 days in space with a new record that is the most spacewalking time by a female at 50 hours and 40 minutes over seven career excursions.Williams, the commander of Expedition 33 on the International Space Station returned home with two space-going colleagues in a Russian Soyuz capsule which landed at 8:56 p.m. on Sunday night in the steppes of Kazakhstan as per NASA.Williams has recorded 322 days during two space flights which puts her on second position on the list of most experienced US female astronauts. She also has the record of longest spaceflight (195 days) for female space travelers.
