18 September 2019 Current Events Astra Missile Has Been Launched Successfully Off the Coast of Odisha

In a positive development for the Indian defence forces, late on Tuesday evening, Indian Air Force tested “air-to-air” missile Astra. The test was successfully done off the coast of Odisha. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the missile was launched from Su-30 MKI in order to test its capabilities of  being the “first indigenous air-to-air missile”. The missile is said to have a range of over 70 km. It can also wing its way at a speed of 5,555 kilometres per hour.


Unnamed Aerial Vehicle Crashes at a Village in Karnataka

Early on Tuesday, The Defence Research Development Organisation's (DRDO) 'Unnamed Aerial Vehicle' (UAV), Rustam II crashed at Jodi Chikkana Halli in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. The aircraft was undergoing a test flight at Challakere Aeronautical Test Range during the crash. At the outset, the incident created a panic like situation amongst the villagers. However, no person was found inside the aircraft. Rustam II is a ''Medium - Altitude Long Endurance (Male)" aircraft which was first displayed at Defexp in the national capital.
