19 July 2019 Current Events EWS Reservation in West Bengal

As per recent news update the West Bengal Government has issued a notification on July 9, 2019 announcing 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the general category for the posts of government jobs and educational institutions. The government notification states that the applicant should have gross annual family income of less than 8 lakhs per annum. It also stated that a person whose family does not own or possess five acres of land (all the land clubbed together) only is eligible. The person should not own a residential flat of 1,000 sq ft or own a residential plot of 200 square yards and above in areas other than notified municipalities. They should also not possess a residential plot of 100 square yards and above in notified municipalities. The applicant has to show an income and asset certificate that is to be issued by a district magistrate, additional district magistrate, sub-divisional officer or the DWO for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation areas.
