19 May 2020 Current Events India Crosses 1-Lakh Mark of Positive COVID-19 Cases

India crossed the 1-lakh mark of positive COVID-19 cases on Monday with more people testing positive in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and other states. The spurt in the number of cases is a matter of concern for the authorities as the number of infections doubled in just a little over 12 days. On Monday, India reported 4,713 fresh infections, which is the third-highest single-day jump so far, of which around 2,000 cases were reported from Maharashtra for the second day running. During the day, as many as 24 states/UTs reported new cases as well. While the number of cases is rising every day in the country, the number of people recovering from the infections is also steadily rising. As per the reports on Monday, the recovery rate was 38.8%, i.e. 38,908 cases. Further, India's fatality rate is relatively lower at 3.1%; 3,103 deaths. On Monday India entered its fourth lockdown with the rising number of cases, and apart from Maharashtra, the number of cases is reportedly growing in states like Tamil Nadu with 536, Gujarat with 366, Delhi with 299, Madhya Pradesh with 254, Uttar Pradesh with 177 and Bihar with 103 cases.
