20 April 2017 Current Events Union Cabinet Grants Rs.3,200 Crore to EC for EVM Paper Trail Units

As per reports, Rs, 3,200 crore has been granted by the Union Cabinet to Election Commission for obtaining paper trail machines. This will be helpful for the voters because they will be able to verify if their vote has been cast correctly as a slip with voted party's will be dispensed.

The step has been taken amid increasing political noises which questioned the credibility of the electronic voting machines.

The approval came within some days of chief election commissioner Naseem Zaidi sending a reminder of the issue to law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
