21 January 2019 Current Events Death toll from Khardung La rises to 7; two more bodies recovered

On Saturday, rescue operations managed to recover two more bodies from the Avalanche hit site, raising the death toll to seven. On Friday, an avalanche had hit the Khardung La pass, trapping two trucks carrying 10 people.

"Another two bodies have been recovered at Khardung La avalanche site. In total, seven bodies have been recovered so far," said an official from State Disaster Management Department. Now, the bodies will be airlifted to Zanskar tehsil, the arrangements already having been made.


Maharashtra's Palghar: Earthquake of 3.6 magnitude hits twice in three hours

Late Sunday evening, two consecutive earthquakes hit the Palghar region of Maharashtra. Both had a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale. According to sources, the neighbouring regions also felt light tremors. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 km.
