PM Modi to start his 2-day Iran Visit Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to start his 2-day Iran tour where he is expected to sign trilateral agreement of developing Chabahar port, which has strategic importance with regards to its location on southern coast of Iran that also shares coast with Afghanistan. He will reach Iran today evening and will meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani tomorrow. Boosting bilateral trade, energy partnership with Tehran, and focus on infrastructure as well as connectivity will be PM Modi’s priorities.

Ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda in deep waters as CBI conducts raids in 16 Locations and Files FIR

CBI teams raided 16 locations (including residences of some accused, New Delhi, Panchkula, Chandigarh, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Rohtak, Gurgaon, and Faridabad). The raid comes after CBI lodged FIR (on May 16) against 15 persons including the then Chief Minister as well as Chairman of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the then HUDA’s Chief Administrator DPS Nagal, Chief Financier SP Kansal, Deputy Superintendent B B Taneja, and others on questionable industrial plot allotment in Industrial Estate of Panchkula during previous Haryana government.

PM Modi delivers 20th Edition of "Mann ki Baat"

On 20th edition of “Mann ki Baat”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded states for coming up with wonderful efforts for mitigating drought (especially Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh) and also stressed upon the need of “Jan Bhagidari” (collective effort). Modi appealed not to waste water during June- September. He asked people to observe “zero tolerance to illegal trade of animals” on June 5th’s World Environment Day. Modi said Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile (JAM) policy is helping India become a cashless society. PM Modi congratulated the students for their score in CBSE Class 12 examination and asked them to keep a positive mind. He appreciated gains of Yoga and reminding June 21 being World Yoga Day. PM Modi asked people to practice Yoga daily for 20-30 minutes.

President Mukherjee seeks Legal Advice on Medical Board Examination Ordinance

After Union Cabinet cleared ordinance for partially overturning SC order that allowed coverage of all medical private colleges, deemed universities, and government colleges under NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), President Pranab Mukherjee has asked clarification of government before he signs the ordinance. President is reportedly seeking legal advice on certain aspects of the ordinance and has asked Health Minister JP Nadda for explaining why Union Government is seeking “partial” turnaround even after agreeing with the SC order initially.

US House of Representatives approves Defence Bill Amendment for elevating Defence Ties with India

The US House of Representatives has recently approved amendment in their Defence Bill so that India can be brought at par with allies of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) with regards to sale of defence equipment as well as technology transfer. Approval to amend “Enhancing Defence and Security Cooperation with India” comes just weeks ahead of scheduled visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 8. Congressman George Holding, who sponsored the amendment, said this will “promote greater defence trade” and cooperation between India and the US.

RBI Governor Rajan pitches for Better Start-up Business Environment

Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan has pitched for providing better business environment for start-ups. He categorically mentioned that India has surely done away with the “license raj” but, to some extent, is continuing “inspector raj”. He stressed on self-certification by start-ups with some checks on part of authorities for preventing misuse. Rajan also gave examples of UK where liberal regulations have led to higher start-up growth than in Italy. While speaking at 4th Odisha Knowledge Hub, RBI Chief said that Indian economy is recovering.

Maiden Launch of ISRO-made Space Shuttle on May 23

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) will launch RLV-TD (Reusable Satellite Launch Vehicle Technology Demonstrator) tomorrow. Its launch is important because it will be the first step forward towards advanced RLV’s launch by the year 2020. VSSC director K Sivan said that final mission readiness tests are now conducted at Sriharikota spaceport for tentative May 23, 2016's scheduled launch. Successful space shuttle launch can bring down space travel cost by 110thand later by 1100th of the cost incurred by other space agencies.
