23 April 2019 Current Events No extension of US waiver to purchase Iran oil

The Trump administration reiterated on Monday that the waiver granted to India- from sanctions pertaining to the purchase of crude oil from Iran - will cease on May 2, 2019,  as envisaged. No extension is being considered going forward, and any country that continues to buy oil from Iran will invite trade sanctions from the US. The move is expected to raise the price of crude oil in the international market, affecting large consumers like India in the long run.


Polling begins for the largest phase of Lok Sabha Elections
Polling has begun for the third phase of 2019 general elections across the country on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. A total of 117 constituencies across 15 States and Union Territories will go to the polls today.
All the parliamentary constituencies in Daman and Diu (1), Goa (2), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (1), Kerala (20), and Gujarat (26) will witness polling in a single phase today. States like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Assam also have some parliamentary constituencies which will witness voting in today's round. Voting for Tripura East, which had been postponed earlier due to the law and order situation, will also take place today.
Amit Shah (BJP) from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP) from Mainpuri, UP, Supriya Sule (NCP) from Baramati, Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi (INC) from Wayanad, and Shashi Tharoor (INC) from Thiruvananthapuram, both in Kerala, Sambit Patra (BJP) from Puri, Odisha and Mallikarjun Kharge (INC) from Kalaburagi (Karnataka) are some of the heavyweights in fray in this round. The vote counting would be held on May 23, 2019.
