CISF trooper killed by guerilla attack in Srinagar

A guerilla attack in Srinagar led to death of a soldier of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper and injured seriously another. The separatists started firing at the troopers close to a building which houses Naaz cinema in Srinagar. The injured soldier has been inflicted with serious bullet injuries. This spread panic in the city as people started running here and there when the firing started. The soldiers were buying vegetables when the incident happened. This was just 1 km away from Lal Chowk, the city center. Naaz cinema was closed down when the separatist violence started in Kashmir in early part of 1990.

Delhi High Court issues production warrant against the four convicts in the Delhi gangrape case

 

Production warrants against the four convicts in the Delhi gangrape case who were awarded death sentence has been issued by the Delhi High Court. This order was issued by the single-member bench of the High Court headed by Justice Reva Khetrapa. The matter will come up for hearing on Tuesday. The trial court while awarding the death sentence for its confirmation had referred the case to the high court. The case was assigned the category of rarest of rare cases as in it the girl was not only raped but was also assaulted in a gruesome manner. It was also stated that the very nature of the case which had sent shock waves in the country demanded that the punishment should be in a way that would set an examples. The main accused Ram Singh hanged himself in the cell while the juvenile accused got a sentence of not more than three years imprisonment on August 31. While the four accused in the case Akshay Thakur, Mukesh, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta got death sentence.

Sensex ends at 381 points down

 

Sensex ended at 2% or 381 points down as there was crucial selling of rate-sensitive shares spurred by the hike of the key rates by the RBI on Friday. The Sensex made a beginning at 20,060.82 points today but ended provisionally at 19,883.07 points, that was a dip of 380.64 points or 1.88%. On Friday it had closed at 20,263.71 points. In the intraday trading high of 20,199.81 points and a low of 19,826.30 points were touched. The NSE slumped by 128.85 points or 2.14% and closed at 5,883.25 points. Losses occurred to stocks of capital goods, banks, automobile and FMCG. Gain was registered by information technology, consumer durables, entertainment and media, technology stocks.

Deepika Kumari bags successive third silver medal at the World Cup

 

Indian archer Deepika Kumari bagged her successive third silver medal at the World Cup. Though she started the game well with 3 perfect 10s and was leading at 3-1 but a time lapse led Ok-Hee Yun, the Olympic Champion from Korea edge ahead of Deepika in a 6-4 win. Incidentally Deepika has lost to Yun second time. Deepika had lost to the Korean in May at the Shanghai World Cup as she committed an error in judgment. Deepika reached the finals of the World Cup four times in a row. She ranked fifth in 2010, and she grabbed silver in 2011 and 2012.

Vidya Balan will play a female detective in 'Bobby Jasoos'

Vidya Balan will now be essaying the character of a female detective in 'Bobby Jasoos'. This is next production of Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha. Vidya is very excited with the prospect of playing a female detective and she stated that she found the movie’s title quite intriguing. She said though she had always wanted to work with Sahil and Dia whom she knew for years, but it was Sanyuktha Chawla's script which set the ball rolling. On the other hand Dia said that Vidya was selected as the character has different layers which she feels would be beautifully essayed by Vidya. The shooting will start from mid-November and the movie will release in the summer of 2014.

Samsung has launched an affordable smartphone Samsung Galaxy Trend priced at Rs 8,700. The device comes with Android 4.0 OS that is Ice Cream Sandwich. The phone has 4 inches touch screen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The phone comes with 1 GHz single core processor and 512 MB RAM. There is 4 GB of internal space which can be expanded to 32 GB. There is a 3 MP primary camera and a 1500 mAh battery. The phone is yet to hit the markets but will soon in the coming days.
