24 August 2020 Current Events Serum Institute Denies Reports of Vaccine Launch in 73 Days, Calls it "False & Conjectural"

To counter the vaccine launch reports in 73 days, Serum Institute of India (SSI) in Pune, Maharashtra issued an official statement saying the reports to be "completely false and conjectural". SSI has been associated with AstraZeneca to produce Oxford University’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate. In its further clarification, the company also said that the government has granted it permission to manufacture Covishield and stockpile it for future use and will be commercialized only after requisite regulatory approvals. Serum Institute has registered for Phase I and Phase II clinical trials on Covishield with the Clinical Trials Registry of India (CTRI). The tests will be carried out on 1,600 healthy participants across India. Serum Institute is also bound for production, and clinical trials deal with AstraZeneca for the AZD1222 vaccine, which has been tested in the most number of people across the globe. The company has also partnered with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to increase the manufacturing and delivery up to 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for India and other low and middle-income countries.
