Assam Violence: Chirang remains tense, army stages flag march



The army staged a flag march in Assam's Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD)  in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri on Wednesday, July 25. The situation remained tense as three more bodies were recovered from Chirang district and five villages in the same district - Makhanguri, Goyaripara, Choirabari, Majrabari and Bhaoraguri were set ablaze. Police has though stated that the situation had improved in Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts. The four districts have been worst hit in the communal violence. Mob is setting fire to those houses which have been deserted by the villagers. The indefinite curfew continues in Chirang district. Union Secretary (northeast) Sambhu Singh had agreed that the situation would not have turned this way if army was pressed in action on day one but he also added that the process takes time. Now there were sufficient forces to tackle the situation and 44 companies of additional forces were on their way to be deployed in BTAD.

 

President Pranab takes office

 India got its 13th president in 76-year-old experienced politician Pranab Mukherjee on July 25. He was given the oath of office at 11.28 a.m. inside the central hall of parliament.by Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia.  He was escorted by  his predecessor Pratibha Patil, he went to parliament from the Rashtrapati Bhavan and then returned back to Rashtrapati Bhavan as the first citizen of India. The ceremony was a blend of splendour, pageantry, tradition and modernity. The 1000 members of the three defence forces lined along Raisina Hill for the 'Hazar Salam' or thousand salute to the supreme commander of the armed forces. The president's mounted bodyguards were in their livery of white coordinated with dark turbans. The president in his speech said he will strive to preserve, protect and defend the constitution. 

 

 

 

Fuel prices revised across the country

Fuel prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and kerosene across the country were revised after state-run oil marketing companies adjusted the surcharge paid for state levies which included entry tax on crude and purchase tax. In seven states petrol price increased from 72 paise to Rs.2.13 per litre. Similarly diesel prices from 72 paise to Rs.1.95 per litre in seven states. In eight states kerosene price was hiked by 32-80 paise per litre. In six states LPG cylinder price increased from Rs.8.72 to Rs.19.43 per cylinder. This revision by OMC also entailed to reduction in the price of diesel in 11 states by 32-62 paise per litre, in the price of kerosese by 6 paise to 16 paise per litre in nine states and that of LPG in 12 states  by Rs.3.86 to Rs.10.18 per cylinder.

Ma Foi acquires 51% stake in Axis-V e-learning company



Ma Foi Strategic Consultants with business verticals like strategic consulting, market research and management education has got into e-learning domain. The company has acquired 51 percent stake in Axis-V which has a Rs.3.7 crore revenue for an amount which has not been disclosed by the company.Ma Foi Strategic is ready for more acquisitions of companies who are in the domains like analytics, business consulting, energy consulting and other areas.

Ruud Gullit will come to Kolkata on July 28

 Legendary Dutch footballer Ruud Gullit will come to Kolkata  on July 28 for two days to be a part of the final match of a 'para' (community) tournament. He is also going to be the chief guest at an awards function of football club Mohun Bagan the following day that is July 29 which is celebrated as 'Mohun Bagan Day'. This was the day when the club defeated  East York Regiment in the IFA Shield final in 1911.  Gullit will also be selecting two of the best players during the match who would get training by Prayag United. He will be then attending the Mohun Bagan Day programme at Netaji Indoor stadium in the evening. 

"Heroine" has many sources of inspiration Madhur Bhandarkar

Director Madhur Bhandarkar has said his movie "Heroine" is not inspired by any one person. 70 percent of the movie is taken from real incidents and 30 percent is fiction. He said that he did not deny the fact that the movie was inspired by Hollywood and Bollywood but there are many sources of his inspiration. The director said this at the launch of the trailer of the movie where he was accompanied by Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta who have played stellar roles in the film. As is the case with his films, Bhandarkar spoke to many people as part of the research for his movie. 

Apple finds the multi-layered distribution network in India not congenial to its growth

 Apple has stated that the multi-layered distribution network in India is detrimental to the company's interests and as a result it finds higher potential elsewhere in the "intermediate term". Apple CEO Tim Cook said he loved India but the distribution network worked against the company's interests. This was when he was asked why Apple is not more successful in India and what were his views on the company's growth in the country. At the same time he also said that it did not mean they were not focusing on India.
