Salwa Judum founder killed in Naxalite attack

A Naxalite attack led to the death of two Congress leaders, and injured another, while it is being said that they also kidnapped one party leader.

This happened in Sukma district of Chattisgarh while Parivartan Yatra was on. In this attack, Congress leader Mahendra Karma who was the Salwa Judum founder was one of the persons who were killed. V C. Shukla received injuries and Nand Kumar Patel is reportedly missing and is believed to have been abducted. 

The firing on the yatra started when it was enroute to Jagdalpur at Geedam Ghati. Congress party has said that the ruling BJP did not provide them enough security. The matter is under investigation whether this was the handiwork of the Naxalites. Contact with the leaders was yet to be made by the Chattisgarh Congress media cell as the region where this incident took place is heavily forested.

Pakistan releases 45 fishermen

The 45 Indian fishermen were today released by Pakistan via the Attari Border. Belonging to Gujarat, all these fishermen were there in Karachi's Landi jail and among them there were 3 juveniles as well.

The fishermen had with them an appeal from 400 fishermen who are still present in the jails of Pakistan. The letter requested India to resolve the issue and look after their release. The fishermen stated that though there had been discussions earlier for defining international waters, nothing was done in that direction and the ultimate sufferers were these fishermen who have to venture out in the sea to make a living.

SEBI to have access to call records

SEBI may be having the access to call records of persons as it will get entry into the list of agencies which have the right to access call records. The announcement regarding this will be made soon.

SEBI wanted this access for some time now as the telecom companies did not provide it with the data required as its name did not feature in the list of the agencies which can avail call records.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had earlier stated that necessary steps would be taken to make SEBI stronger so as to deal with financial issues cropping up now.

Rahul Dravid will sign off from IPL

Rahul Dravid, who is leading Rajasthan Royals, has given a hint that he will be signing off from the Indian Premier League, after the Champions League T20 gets over this year.

He said as he is 41 now he cannot predict whether he will play in the next IPL after an year. The Rajasthan Royals have qualified for the Champions League T20, which starts on September 17 in India. Dravid will participate in that tournament, but he said he won't in any other. He stated that by luck his team had been qualified and so he will play for a few months more. 

Dravid has a record of 2,174 runs from 89 IPL matches. Having retired from all other formats of the game, this will be the last format from where he will be signing off. 

Sanjay Dutt in Yerawada Jail

Sanjay Dutt was today shifted to Yerawada Jail in Pune early morning on May 22 to complete his jail term. He was in Arthur Road Jail for 6 days since he surrendered on May 16. He has been in Yerawada Jail in 2007 as well.

Dutt maintained the jail's routine, which involved breakfast at 7:30 am, lunch at 11:30 am and dinner at 6:30 pm. He is yet to be assigned a job as prisoner.

He will not get any special concessions and will be treated as a normal convict and is now known as "qaidi no. 16656". He has been though kept in a separate cell for security reasons and will get concessions as prescribed by the court for a month. 

Samsung Galaxy Star at Rs 5,240

Samsung has now brought Galaxy series phone 'Star' which comes at Rs 5,240. This is to compete with Nokia's Asha range. In fact, this is the cheapest device in the Galaxy series and Samsung has now added 15 devices in the range of Rs 5,240-Rs 41,500.

Earlier, Galaxy Y came at the lowest price from Samsung's stable at Rs 5,890.

The phone's features include: dual-SIM, A5 1GHz processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 3-inch screen, 2MP camera and 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB.
