26 August 2020 Current Events GST on Two-Wheelers Maybe Revised As Per Finance Minister

On Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at an industry interaction that GST rates on two-wheelers could be revised as they fall neither on luxury nor sin goods products. As per a statement issued by CII and the finance ministry spokesperson, a rate revision proposal would be taken up by the GST Council. At present, two-wheelers attract 28 percent of GST (Goods and Service Tax). The discussion started last year when the country’s largest two-wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp, urged the government to consider a "phase-wise reduction" in GST on the segment, starting with bringing bikes up to 150 CC into the 18 percent slab.
