Saina Nehwal Participates in Clean India Movement and Nominates 5 Sports Personalities

After Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Petroleum Minister, nominating Saina Nehwal as Swachh Bharat campaign’s ambassador, the ace shuttler not only participated in the events and led ‘Walkathon’, but also swept the road. Bharat Petroleum Oil organised the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. She also asked everyone to be a part of this campaign. She also nominated 5 others including P V Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap, Guru Sai Dutt, Pullela Gopichand, and Vimal Kumar.

Australian Batsmen Batters Indian Bowlers again on First Day of 3rd Test Match

Australian cricketers continue their superb form and humiliated Indian players on the 1st day of third test match between the two sides in Melbourne on Boxing Day. Steve Smith played yet another captain’s innings with an unbeaten 72 runs on board. Two other batsmen (Shane Watson and Chris Rogers) reached fifties to put up a considerable score of 259/5. Both Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami took two wickets each. One wicket was taken by Ravichandran Ashwin. India has not won a single match in the last 33 years at MCG.

India asks for Technologies from Pentagon for Joint Production under Make in India Initiative

As US President prepares to visit India in January 2015, after accepting Indian PM’s request, India sends a request of five technologies (including hot-engine technology, Signature Aperture Radar of Raytheon, Northrop Grumman manufactured Global Hawk -high-altitude UAV, and Scorpion mutation bomb of Textron) for bolstering its defence sector to Pentagon through a visiting delegation. Sources reveal that the India has asked for licence requirements as well as detailed proposals on the technologies, which are expected to be co-produced by India with the USA in Make in India initiative.

TN Pays Tearful Homage to Victims of Tsunami Tragedy on Tenth Anniversary

People of Tamil Nadu gave homage to thousands of victims killed during 2004 Tsunami tragedy. Special services and silent rallies were organised in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, especially in the worst affected ones including Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, and others. More than 8,000 people died during the natural calamity of 2004. While fishermen stayed away from their profession on the day, residents offered flowers and milk to sea for the deceased. Social activists reveal that the affected coastal areas of TN still suffer from proper connection of water.

Union Government Talks Tough on Taking Action on Bodo Militants

After assuring "time-bound" action against militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland along with a NIA probe on massacre of 83 tribal lives (42 in Kokrajhar and 41 in Sonitpur), Home Minister held talks with Dalbir Singh Suhag (Army Chief) and asked for result on the issue. Rajnath Singh has also asked Army chief of holding operation by coordinating with Assam police. Suhag has reportedly assured of intensifying the operation by mobilising 66 companies of its force. Many people living in remote Assam villages are reported to be fleeing to neighbouring states, especially West Bengal.

PM NaMo refutes Reports of Union Government Privatising Railways

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that national carrier, Indian Railways, will not be privatised. During his speech in his constituency Varanasi NaMo claimed that the reports circulating that his government is trying to privatise railways is nothing but sheer lies. Modi reportedly said that his government considers the national carrier as backbone of India’s development rather than a mere means of travel. He delivered the speech during flagging of workshop expansion at Varanasi’s Diesel Locomotive Works. However, he touched upon using private capital, indigenous and abroad, for infrastructure enhancement.

Negotiations between Major Political Parties Gain Traction in J&K

Ram Madhav held a talk with PDP’s Muzaffar Hussain Baig, is in favour of forging alliance with the saffron party to form a stable government. However, many PDP leaders are reported to be against it. Congress has already given unconditional support to PDP but the latter is yet to respond. After BJP made it clear that they will go with either NC or PDP, NC’s Omar Abdullah cancelled his London trip and is expected to talk with BJP leaders today on possible alliance. However, Omar has denied the reports of his party’s role in formation of next government.

Raghubar Das to become the Next CM of Jharkhand

Jharkhand BJP MLAs have chosen Raghubar Das as their leader of Jharkhand Assembly, clearing his way to become the next Chief Minister of the state. This will be the first time in the 14-year history of Jharkhand that the state is going to get a non-tribal CM. It became easier for Das to become the leading contender for the coveted post because Arjun Munda, tribal BJP leader and also ex-CM of Jharkhand, lost the Assembly election.

INC-NCP Fume over Maha Government's Move to Revoke Muslim Quota

Opposition parties including NCP and INC has warned Maharashtra Government of doing away with cancellation of Muslim quota in government education and jobs. The new BJP-Shiv Sena government has provided 16 per cent Maratha reservation but revoked decision of providing quota to Muslims. NCP has alleged that the Devendra Fadnavis government is working on the instruction of RSS.

Stocks of PSU Banks Surge as Meeting of PM with PSU Bosses Near

With the news hitting the stands that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to hold talks with Public Sector Banks’ chiefs on 3 January, stocks of PSU Banks witnessed a rally in the Indian bourses. Reports suggest that during the meeting, a full proof action plan will be worked out for undergoing major reforms in the sector to meet international standards of banking. By noon, Syndicate Bank, Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Allahabad Bank, Union Bank of India, and Corporation Bank were trading anything from 3 to 4 per cent. CNX PSU Bank index also increased by 1.2 per cent till 12.13 pm.

After release of the statement, stock of Zensar Technologies reached a high of Rs. 634 after opening at Rs. 575 during early trade at NSE. In both BSE and NSE, large volumes of Zensar stock traded hands.

Prospects of SpiceJet Brightens; Stock Rallies

With co-founder of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh, set to submit revival plan of the distressed airliner to the Union Aviation ministry, market responded positively as the stock witnessed an upward swing of more than 10 per cent. During early trade at BSE, SpiceJet stock rose by 10.5 per cent to Rs. 19.50, just after 10am. Sources reveal that Ajay Singh has been successful in roping in J P Morgan Chase and Co. for buying Kalanithi Maran’s stake.
