Google India celebrated 66th Republic Day of India with special doodle that featured a tableau for the ceremonial parade showcasing two important landmarks of the country – Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate. Xiaomi's special 2-hour registration window for its flagship Mi3 handset took place today from 12 noon to 2pm at Flipkart. As the offer was limited, only a few registered users got the device in their cart by 5pm today. Special offers on gadgets such as iPhone 5S, Kindle ebook Reader, 32GB Google Nexus 6, computer components, etc. were available on eCommerce sites such as Snapdeal, eBay India, Amazon India, Flipkart, Apple India, etc.    


Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap win Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament

Saina Nehwal, the ace woman shuttler of India, wins Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament’s women's singles title in a nail biting match. She defeated Carolina Marin of Spain by 19-21, 25-23, 21-16. Saina made a superb comeback after losing the first game to the world reigning champion. Parupalli Kashyap defeated K Srikanth by 23-21, 23-21 to win the men’s title of the tournament. While Saina’s match went on for 1 hour and 19 minutes, Kashyap wrapped up the match in just 52 minutes.


Padma Awards for Sports Personalities – Hits and Misses

Padma Awards of 2015 were announced yesterday where 6 sports personalities made it to the final list. Both shuttler Saina Nehwal and wrestler Sushil Kumar were left out of the final list, even after all the noise regarding their selection in the coveted award list. Padma Bhushan award will be conferred to Satpal, renowned ex-wrestler and coach of Sushil Kumar. Padma Shri award will be given to Mithali Raj (Captain of woman's Cricket team), Arunima Sinha (first woman amputee mountaineer successful in climbing Mount Everest), Saba Anjum (former captain of woman’s hockey team), shuttler PV Sindhu, and Sardar Singh (captain of men’s hockey team).

India celebrated 66th Republic Day today. This year’s ceremonial parade assumed special significance as US President Barack Obama along with his wife Michelle Obama attended the program on special request from India. Obama is the first ever American President to become special guest at such event. Today’s ceremonial parade of Republic Day showcased India’s military prowess, regional and cultural diversity, and most importantly ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women’s Power) by showcasing 3 services of all-woman contingents. 500 police officers who are experts in suspicious movement detection in participants and public were deployed at Rajghat. 500 US Secret Service Agents and 50,000 security personnel were deployed in Delhi. Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi, and special guests witnessed the event from bullet-proof enclosure.


US-India Bonhomie and Trade all set to Reach New Heights with Obama's 3-Day Visit to India on Republic Day Occasion

US-India CEO Forum meeting is going to be held just a few hours from now on India’s Republic Day. This meeting will deal with multiple business and trade issues including roadblocks to investments in India, totalisation agreement, visas, Make in India campaign, etc. Indian PM Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama will address the meeting jointly today. Yesterday India-US strategic partnership scaled new heights with NaMo and Obama announcing overcoming of hurdles on long pending nuclear deal. It is decided nuclear liability issue will be bourn by the Indian insurers as well as Indian government. Agreements were signed regarding joint production of specialized kits and military hardware.

India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, will be conferred to 9 eminent personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, LK Advani, Dilip Kumar, and Parkash Singh Badal. Padma Bhushan award was conferred to twenty individuals such as Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates, Sudha Raghunathan, Swapan Dasgupta, Harish Salve, etc. Padma Shri award has been given to 75 individuals including Prasoon Joshi, Bibek Debroy, Arunima Sinha, Mohandas Pai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and many more.
