India showcases its Cultural Diversity and Military Might during 67th Republic Day Parade at Rajpath

India today celebrated its 67th Republic Day at Rajpath by showcasing its cultural diversity and military might. The Republic Day parade at Rajpath was attended by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Guest of honour of the event was President of France Francois Hollande. It was participated by a 123-member French army contingent, first time by any foreign military contingent in history of independent India. Delhi turned into fortress as multiple intelligence inputs cautioned about possible militant attack.

President Mukherjee reminds Nation about Virtues of Democracy

President Pranab Mukherjee reminded the country about virtues of democracy which allows people to “complain, demand, and rebel” but at the same time applaud achievements of the democracy. President said that India is positioning itself to achieve higher growth rate through on-going investment in infrastructure, science, technology, manufacturing, education, and health. He also said that core values of nationhood must be guarded from “violence, intolerance and unreason”. Mukherjee vouched for peace through dialogue but not “under a shower of bullets”.

Congress moves SC against Center's recommendation of Prez Rule in Arunachal Pradesh

Days after Union Cabinet recommended President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh followed by President Pranab Mukherjee asking the Home Ministry about the reason of urgency to undertake such a strong decision, Congress has moved Supreme Court challenging the centre’s recommendation. In its petition to the SC, chief whip of Congress in Arunachal Pradesh Rajesh Tacho has challenged central cabinet’s decision by referring it to be irrational, illegal, and mala fide. The petition also accused the center of trying to topple “a democratically elected government”.

India defies falling Steel Production Trend of the World, Increases by 2.6 Per Cent

Steel Ministry’s report shows that India (3rd largest producer of steel) is the only country among the major steel producing countries of the world that witnessed growth in steel production (2.6 per cent increase - from 87.3 million tonnes in 2014 to 89.6 million tones in 2015). World steel output witnessed its first ever fall (by 2.8 per cent to a dismal 1,622.8 million tonnes) last year since 2009. In terms of total steel production, India has surpassed USA.

S&P says India less vulnerable to External Global Shocks

Standard & Poor's Rating Services has observed that Indian economy is not dependant on hot money but is primarily dependant on government spending as well as domestic household consumption. Underlining this fact, S&P has said that this makes Indian economy less vulnerable to external financial as well as economic shocks. S&P also believes that India’s current account deficit at the end of current fiscal as well as by end of 2018 will remain at a modest 1.4 per cent level.

ISRO Director says Space Technology will Transform India in coming Years

Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), K Sivan, at an event organized by PSG and Sons charities on its 90th Founders Day in Coimbatore, has said that space technology will play an important role in coming years to transform India and vouched for application-based learning in space technology. Sivan said VSCC has come up with 1/6th size of actual reusable launch vehicle (to be showcased in April) that will help in space tourism.

IOA acts on Delhi HC directives, Asks State Units to Choose between IABF and BI

After Delhi High Court asked Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for taking decision on recognition of boxing associations - Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) and Boxing India (BI) – IOA has asked state Olympic associations of taking decision among these two. Per HC order, IOA is supposed to take a final decision on this issue by January 31, 2016. Per the HC order, Sports Ministry has to recognize one of the associations by March 15, 2016 as National Sports Federation for boxing.

President approves Padma Awards to 112 People

President Pranab Mukherjee has approved the list of 112 people to be conferred Padma awards in 2016. Out of these, 10 are conferred Padma Vibhushan awards, 19 Padma Bhushan awards, and rest 83 Padma Shri awards. Some of the popular personalities who won Padma awards are Smt Girija Devi, Late Swami Dayanand Sarawasati (Posthumous), Late Dhirubhai Ambani (Posthumous), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Ajay Devgan, Priyanka Chopra, Anupam Kher, Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry, Vinod Rai, Hafeez Contractor, Ujjwal Nikam, and many more.

Gallantry Awards and Defence Decorations Approved by President

President Pranab Mukherjee has approved 365 Gallantry awards and Defence Decorations to personnel of Armed Forces, including one Ashok Chakra (highest peacetime gallantry award). Ashok Chakra has been conferred to Rashtriya Rifles’ 13625566W Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami for his most conspicuous gallantry act against terrorists and also for saving his three colleagues on 02/03 September 2015. Defence Security Corps personnel Late Jagdish Chand has been conferred with Kirti Chakra for displaying great valour against terrorists in latest Pathankot attack.
