MEA acknowledges arrested Person in Balochistan as Ex-Navy Official but Denies any Govt Link

A day after Pakistan alleged they have captured an Indian spy in Balochistan, MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) has stated that the captured person is a former Indian Navy Officer named Kulbhushan Jadhav but denied his link with Government of India. While Pakistani officials claimed they arrested Kulbhushan for carrying out “subversive activities”, Pakistani media referred him as R&AW’s officer and Indian Navy’s Commander-rank officer. This is the first time Indian government has acknowledged a person to be associated with its armed forces who has been arrested on other side of the border.

Union Cabinet gives go ahead to hold FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017

The Union Cabinet has approved to hold the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017 in India. The decision was taken in a high-profile meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A committee has been authorised to make required adjustments to change venues for doing away with any difficulty after consultation with All India Football Federation (AIFF) /FIFA. The concerned committee will consist of Secretary as well as Financial Adviser of Sports department and DG of SAI (Sports Authority of India).   

DRDO to showcase "Make in India" Initiatives during Defence Expo 2016

DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) is all set to showcase its “Make in India” spirit during the 9th edition of Defence Expo 2016 (a biannual event). The concerned Land, Naval and Internal Homeland Security Systems Exhibition will be held in Goa from March 28 to March 31, 2016, and the event will be inaugurated by union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. Reports say that the products that will be showcased are AKASH Air Defence System, Wheeled Armoured Platform, Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, Airborne Early Warning and Control System, and many more.

Forex Reserve Swells to an All Time High

Foreign exchange (Forex) reserve in India has touched an all time high of 355.947 billion this week (ending on March 18) as it swelled by US$ 2.539 billion. As per a report published by the Reserve Bank of India, with respect to week ending on June 19, 2015, Forex reserve has swelled by US$ 2.543 billion to 353.407 billion. As per the RBI release, major component of overall reserves, FCA has jumped by US$ 2.505 billion to US$ 332.504 billion.

Pakistani joint investigation team gets 7-day Indian Visa to Probe Pathankot Attack

The Union government has cleared 7-day visa for the Pakistani probe team (Joint Investigation Team) for investigating Pathankot attack. Sources say that significant headway has taken place in India-Pakistan investigation. NIA expects Pakistan to share identity of the attackers with India. It is learnt that itinerary of Pakistan’s JIT team has been finalised and the team is expected to have 5 members. Reports say that Pakistan’s JIT team will on 29 March accompany NIA officials to Pathankot’s encounter site.

Mehbooba likely to be sworn in as J&K CM by First Week of April

Reports say that PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is going to be the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to take her oath as CM in the first week of April 2016. After a marathon bargaining between PDP and BJP over their common minimum programme, understanding has been reached between the two political parties. Though BJP is asking for high profile ministries, BJP and PDP have agreed that portfolio change will not take place now as it can give a wrong impression.
