27 April 2014 Current Events Kings XI Punjab defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL

The Kings XI Punjab defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 23 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. It is the fourth successive win of the Kings XI in the seventh season of the Indian Premier League( IPL ). The Kolkata had a target of 133 runs to chase but they all were bowled out for 109 in 18.2 over. Top three batsmen of the Kolkata Knight Riders got out very early. Skipper Gautam Gambhir who in early three matches had scored ducks, scored his first one run in this match. Medium pacer Sandeep Sharma became man of the match.


Justice Lodha is the new chief justice of India

Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha took oath as the 41st chief justice of India on Sunday. He is 64 years old. Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and cabinet ministers Sushilkumar Shinde, A.K. Antony, Kapil Sibal and M. Veerappa Moily also attended the oath ceremony that took place at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among all the cases he has heard in his career, case related to unequal allotment of the coal blocks is the most popular one.


A bomb explosion injured 14 people before Farooq Abdullah's rally

A bomb explosion injured fourteen people just before the scheduled rally by the present ruling National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar. The rally was planned to take place in Magam town of central Badgam district, located at a distance of 30 km from Srinagar. This is the second explosion before Abdullah’s rally in the state. The first one took place in Khanyar area of the state capital. As per media report a hand grenade was thrown by some unidentified persons caused explosion.

While taunting BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi she said that India needs a heart full of kindness. As per media report she said that there is no need to showcase one’s achievements. Priyanka Gandhi called the Lok Sabha elections as a way to safeguard the culture of the country rather than just electing the MPs. She talked about development in Rae Bareli which now has a hospital, a central school and factories. This prominent seat will witness poll on April 30.


First batch of Delhi metro engineers to visit Malaysia for training

10 engineers of Delhi metro are going to Malaysia for skill improvement in underground tunneling. They will be trained at Tunnel Training Academy in Kuala Lumpur. Delhi Metro has plans to set up its own training academy in the near future. As per media report this is the first batch and the training will definitely help the engineers to dig 53 km of Metro line in the present lines and two new lines under the Phase III of the Metro Network. Near about 23 lakh passengers commute in the Delhi Metro daily.


Re-polling at 30 polling booths in Bihar

There was a total calm during the re-polling at 30 polling booths in Bihar. 55% voters came out to vote. Polling started at 7 am and ended at 6 pm.  As per the media report re-polling was scheduled due to complaints of irregularities. Re-polling at 22 polling booths in Katihar parliamentary constituency has been held. From this constituency, general secretary on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Minister of State for Agriculture Tariq Anwar is contesting against the BJP's Nikhil Kumar Choudhary.
