27 December 2018 Current Events Meghalaya miners: NDRF says chances of rescue very slim

With almost a fortnight since 15 miners were trapped inside a coal mine in Meghalaya, hope continues to dwindle. 

The rescue operations by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have so far been futile. The miners were trapped on December 13, after water from the nearby river had gushed into the mine. Efforts to pump the water out have yielded no results so far. "…the chances of rescuing the men are very slim", an NDRF personnel was quoted as saying.


Rajasthan government: Ministries allocated

Late evening yesterday, Governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh allocated different departments to the council of ministers. 

Chief Minister Gehlot will be handling noncrucial departments- including the Home and Finance ministry. Deputy CM Sachin Pilot has ministries like PWD, Rural Development, Science and Technology, and Statistics etc. According to the release by cabinet secretariat, 10 ministers in total have been allocated portfolios.
