Aadhaar Card not to be Made Mandatory for Welfare Schemes, says Supreme Court

As per reports, Supreme Court on Monday mentioned that for the welfare schemes it offers, government cannot make Aadhaar card compulsory. On the other hand, it also mentioned that for other schemes like filing of income tax and opening bank accounts, Aadhaar card is mandatory.

This came after government’s recent announcement of making Aadhaar mandatory for PAN cards and income tax returns.
