28 August 2020 Current Events Rainfall: August Receives Highest Rainfall i.e., 24% Excess Since 1983

As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), August 2020 recorded the highest rainfall i.e., 24% more precipitation on average, for the first time since 1983. During the first three weeks of August, several parts of India, particularly central and some parts of western India, including Gujarat and Rajasthan, recorded excess rain. On the weekends, August 12 received 13% excess rainfall, August 19 received 42% excess rainfall, and August 26 saw 41% excess rain. Further, it is expected that there will be above average precipitation at least until September 3; after that, rainfall might reduce. Furthermore, IMD also predicts hefty rain over Vidarbha (Maharashtra) and Chhattisgarh on August 28, over West Madhya Pradesh on 28 and 29, over Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa on August 29. IMD scientists warn about a mudslide and flooding in central India as the soil is already saturated there.
