2 serving Major Generals to be probed by the CBI

Two serving major generals namely Major General Ashok Kumar and SS Lamba will be investigated by the CBI for illegal wealth. The two officers have been accused of accumulating far more wealth than they have legitimately earned. While complaints against the two major generals have already been received by the ministry, now the case has been handed over to the CBI for an in-depth analysis.

CBSE Helpline for Class X & XII students from 1 Feb

With the CBSE board examinations for classes X and XII commencing from 1 March, 2016, the board is gearing up to start a toll-free helpline number for counselling the students. The helpline number would be operational between 12:00 p.m. and 04:00 p.m. from 1 February 2016 till the end of the CBSE board examinations. It would be managed by a team of mental health specialists and psychologists who will be available between 09:00 a.m. and 05:00 p.m. on a daily basis.

Oppo F1 comes to India

Today, Oppo launched its camera-focused F1 smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 15,990, Oppo F1 will be succeeded by its variant called the Oppo F1 Plus which is scheduled to arrive in April and would be available at a price of Rs. 26,990. The Oppo F1 supports dual-SIM and runs on ColorOS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 SoC.

Sushma Swaraj to head for a 2-day visit to Mumbai

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will undertake a two-day visit to Mumbai beginning tomorrow. Her visit is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to his ministers to reach out to people on the tasks that are being handled by the National Democratic Alliance government. Ms. Swaraj would be interacting with groups representing various strata of society in the financial capital of India.

BlackBerry Priv now available in India

Today, BlackBerry launched its first Android smartphone Priv in India. Already gone up for pre-orders in October last year, BlackBerry Priv has been priced at Rs. 62,990 and will be available via Amazon India and a range of offline retail stores from 30 January, 2016. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based BlackBerry Priv comes with a 5.4 inch QHD Amoled display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 418 GPU.

Government to announce 20 smart cities today

The Indian government will be announcing the names of the first twenty urban areas that will eventually be developed as smart cities. All the selected areas will be equipped with basic infrastructure, IT connectivity, efficient urban mobility, public transport and e-governance mechanisms. In subsequent years, the government will be announcing 40 more cities each to be developed as a smart city.

India gears up to combat Zika virus

The Zika virus which has been linked to microcephaly (a birth defect where babies are born with smaller heads which further limits brain development) has already gained traction in South and Central America. In-line with this, India is also preparing for any kind of intrusion of the virus. The Union health ministry is gearing up to get testing kits that can be utilized for detecting the Zika virus which is spread by the bite of Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

Sensex & Nifty set to open higher

While the futures and options contracts for the month of January are about to expire, both BSE Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note. The Nifty futures traded on the Singapore Exchange showcase a positive start for the Indian benchmark indices with SGX Nifty scaling by 0.28 percent or 20 points to close at 7,452.
