Bomb blast in Paltan Bazaar area of Guwahati, 7 injured

As many as 7 people were injured when a bomb blast occurred in the congested Paltan Bazaar area in Guwahati. The injured included two policemen as well. The blast occurred at around 7:55 pm in the vicinity of the railway station which is always crowded. The Paltan Bazaar police station is also close by.As the day was a Sunday the marketplace was not as crowded as it is generally is. Till Sunday no one had taken responsibility for the incident. The Assam CM Tarun Gogoi had stated that the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) militants were instrumental in carrying out revolutionary activities keeping in mind the Independence Day. On Tuesday and Wednesday bomb blasts occurred in Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong districts which left one dead and several injured. High alert is declared in Assam.

Telangana issue to be discussed on July 31

The Congress leadership will be discussing with its allies in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on July 31 the controversial matter of etching out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. Also there may be Congress Working Committee meeting on the same day. It is being said that the party had a consultation process and will now bring the topic for discussion with its allies prior to taking a final decision. The issue is debatable as there is a difference in opinion within the party. The central MPs are in favor of a separate state but those from the state that is Andhra Pradesh are opposed to this. Some leaders also met the Prime Minister and have told him that this would have adverse effect on the country as well if Andhra Pradesh is divided.

Kerala will have 3,000 IT companies by 2020

Kerala aims to have at least 3,000 IT companies by 2020. This would be initiated under the Seed Support System which supports initial investment for helping new entrepreneurs within the purview of the latest policy of "one product startup a day”. Also a hi-tech Kerala Technology Innovation Zone will be set up at the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park where the Startup Village, is there at present. Startup Village is a pioneer in PPP incubator in India’s telecom sector wherein RIM has already established an innovation zone. The innovation zone will have a sprawling space of 500,000 sq ft with high end facilities needed for a world class innovation eco-system. It will boost the startups in diverse sectors including IT and biotechnology. Also, the Student Entrepreneurship Policy will give 20% attendance allowance and 5% grace marks and this is now operational in two Kerala universities.

India defeat Zimbabwe by 7 wickets, take 3-0 lead

India carrying out its winning spree has taken a 3-0 lead in the five match ODI series against Zimbabwe by defeating the hosts again by 7 wickets at the Harare Sports Club. Given a low target of only 184 runs India reached home with 87 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand with skipper Virat Kohli shining again with an unbeaten 68 and Suresh Raina being not out on 28. Indian bowlers did their bit with leg spinner Amit Mishra taking four wickets for 42 and Zimbabwe was bowled out for 183 runs in 46 overs. Mishra was declared Man of the Match.

The director who has given movies like "Chocolate", "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal" and "Hate Story", stated in the coming 2-3 weeks he will get the final draft of the movie ready. He said this movie won’t be based only on comedy but will have social aspect as well. After the draft gets completed he will then finalize with the cast. Agnihotri is very excited with his recent project "Freedom" which is in editing stage now. This movie is slated to release by next year.

Canvas 4 started with a hype where the phone was up for pre-booking without any official statement about the specs and price tag. Then the phone was launched and now the booking has stopped but what is interesting enough is that the device is available at many stores but at higher price tag. This quad-core processor phone which has 13 MP camera and aluminum mid-body was launched this month. Though released at the official price of Rs. 17,999 it is now available at higher price much like the Canvas HD A116 whose price increased after a huge demand.
