BCCI Confirms Selection Committee Meeting Tomorrow to pick Indian Squad for Zimbabwe Tour

BCCI has given a clear hint that they are going to carry on their Zimbabwe tour, inspite of the previous cancellation announcement, by confirming that they are all set to hold on a crucial meeting tomorrow to pick-up the cricket squad for Zimbabwe tour. Reports say that BCCI’s All-India Senior Selection Committee meeting will take place at Delhi’s Hotel ITC Maurya on June 29 at 11am IST for cricket team selection. The Zimbabwe tour will start on July 10, 2015 and will have three ODIs followed by two T20 Internationals. During tomorrow’s meeting, the selection committee will also finalise India 'A' team for the tri-series (to be held in Chennai and Wayanad, starting from July 19) to be played against Australia 'A' and South Africa 'A'. Selected team will be announced by BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur and Sandeep Patil (Chairman of Selectors) after tomorrow’s meeting.  

Union Government expects "Billions of Dollars" of Investment Commitments during "Digital India Week"

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union IT and Telecom Minister, said that government is expecting billions of dollars of investment during Digital India Week, to start on July 1. While announcing the enormous scale of events to be held throughout India during launch of the coveted event by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that events will be held in 600 districts all across India, spread over 36 states and Union Territories (UTs). “Digital India” initiative hopes to deliver digital services to every Indian citizen and at the same time raise awareness about digital services, gadgets, and media. Reports say that the July 1 event will be attended by ten thousand guests. Prasad also said that by 2019, Digital India will ensure broadband connectivity to all Panchayats, Wi-Fi Hotspots in major public spaces including travel destinations, and Wi-Fi in schools as well as universities.

Advani talks about his Resignation after Hawala Scam Allegation to give BJP a Message to Maintain Probity in Public Life

BJP patriarch LK Advani said that politicians should maintain probity in public life and went on to give his own life’s example to stress on it. The saffron party veteran said that during infamous Hawala scam his name got entangled (due to Hawala broker SK Jain’s entires in the diary mentioning Advani’s name) and for maintaining probity in public life he resigned as MP in 1996. To stress upon advantages of transparent politics and corruption free image, Advani said that he got reelected as MP in 1998, once his name got cleared by CBI from any kind of involvement in the Hawala scam. The BJP patriarch went on to add that morality demands following of “rajdharma” by the politicians for commanding trust of people. The comment comes at a time when BJP is in a dilemma on Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje regarding Lalit Modi controversy.

RBI Data shows Foreign Exchange Reserves increased to a Whooping $355.46 Billion

Data published by Reserve Bank of India show that up to June 19, foreign exchange reserve has increased to a record high of $355.46 billion, an increase of $1.17 billion. Gold reserves of India in the week to June 19 remained unchanged at $19.34 billion. Special drawing rights with IMF has increased to $4.07 billion, an increase of $26.6 million, and India’s reserve position with IMF jumped to $1.32 billion, an increase of $8.5 million. Inspite of this record increase in forex, a HSBC report opined that India’s foreign exchange reserve needs to increase by an additional $60 billion for creating the coveted buffer to tackle prolonged global financial tightness. The concerned HSBC report specifically mentioned that the additional proposed forex reserve will cushion the risks arising from key vulnerabilities such as “short-term external debt and portfolio outflows” as well as unhedged external commercial debt.

PM Modi boasts of International Yoga Day on "Mann Ki Baat"; Calls for Agricultural Revolution by using Science

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, during his address to the nation through the popular All India Radio “Mann ki Baat”, appreciated AYUSH Ministry’s effort of making International Yoga Day event a success and also appreciated people’s participation in the programme. He called his government “Kaam Karti Sarkar” (a working government). PM Modi also said that on World Yoga Day, participation of 35,985 people at Rajpath event changed it to “Yogpath”, and went on to stress that we should be proud of our own culture and let the world know about them as the whole world is curious about us. Today, PM also visited Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh and laid foundation stone of an agriculture research centre. During his public address there Narendra Modi said use of proper scientific research can revolutionise agriculture in eastern India. PM Modi’s scheduled Varanasi visit was cancelled due to heavy rainfall.

CPIM GS Sitaram Yechury refutes claims of Alliance with Congress but Keeps Door Open for Issue Based Cooperation

Putting an end to all speculation of forming alliance with Congress, CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that any alliance with a party that follows neo-liberal policies is out of question. However, he kept the door open for issue-based cooperation with Congress. Sitaram made it clear that CPIM is ready to unite with other political parties, whether outside or inside parliament, on specific issues to oppose Narendra Modi government. He also added that they had visited the President along with delegates of Congress party to protest against land acquisition bill issue. CPIM General Secretary also said that they are ready to cooperate with other political forces on specific issues but negated formation of any alliance or even front with others (including Congress). Sitaram also criticized Congress of bringing BJP to central power by following neo-liberal economic policies and resorting to incessant corruption.
