Bengaluru to host CeBIT India 2015

The second edition of global IT event CeBIT India 2015 will start off on Thursday at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on the city's outskirts. "India is fast emerging as the global destination for cutting-edge innovation and through our show (CeBIT 2015) we aim to showcase the brilliance of Indian ideas to the global community," said Mehul Lanvers Shah, MD of Hannover Fairs India, the event organiser, in a statement. At least 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day event from October 29 with about five percent of them originating from abroad. Source: IANS

Zee Theatre: ZEEL's new vertical to bring stage to screens

After breaking clutter by launching Zindagi channel and bringing Pakistani shows to Indian small screens, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) is now foraying into theatre production with the launch of Zee Theatre. Renowned playwrights and theatre stalwarts are on board to produce socially relevant content for online, on-air, on-ground and in-transit viewing. We will act tough against Delhi Police: Chandy

The Kerala government will take legal steps against Delhi Police if it doesn't accept that it erred in raiding the Kerala House in Delhi to check if beef was being served there, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. Chandy told the media after a cabinet meeting that his government was waiting for a response from Delhi Police over its Monday raid that triggered a huge row. The action by Delhi Police was not acceptable in any way, Chandy said, adding he had expressed the Kerala government's anguish to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.Source: IANS

Shuttler Sai advances in Bitburger Open

Indian shuttler B. Sai Praneeth got off to a winning start, by earning a straight games triumph over local lad Tobias Wadenka at the $120,000 Bitburger Open Grand Prix Gold. The 16th seeded Sai needed just 27 minutes to beat World No.259 Wadenka 21-12, 21-12 at the Saarlandhalle Saarbrucken to take a 1-0 lead in career meetings over the German. Sun TV posts 41 percent profit growth

Regional satellite channel major Sun TV Network Ltd. on Wednesday said it closed the second quarter of FY16 with 41.37 percent growth in net profit. In a statement issued here, the company said it has posted a net profit of Rs.218.38 crore for the period under review, up from Rs.154.47 crore posted during the quarter ended September 30, 2014. Sun TV said its total income went up to Rs.588.44 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal up from Rs.531.22 crore earned for the quarter ended September 30, 2014. Source: IANS

SC frowns upon Centre's inaction on firecrackers

The Supreme Court has refused to order blanket ban on firecrackers on Diwali, and expressed its displeasure over the central government's failure to carry out its earlier directive to give wide publicity to the ill effects the bursting of crackers has and the sound and air pollution it causes. The apex court bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra asked the Centre and other authorities to start publicity campaign both in print and electronic media on the harmful impact of firecrackers during the festival season from October 31 to November 12. Curfew relaxed in Madhya Pradesh town

Curfew in Khargone town of Madhya Pradesh was relaxed for seven hours, police said. The town is under curfew for the last six days following an eruption of communal violence. Khargone SP Amit Singh said that the curfew has been relaxed from 10 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. The town witnessed communal violence after Dussehra celebrations following a clash between two communities. Modi holds bilateral meeting with African leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meetings with African leaders on the sidelines of the ongoing Third India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS). "A start to Prime Minister's bilateral meetings with Zimbabwe. PM with IAFS co-chair His Excellency Robert Mugabe at Hyderabad House," spokesperson of external affairs ministry Vikas Swarup tweeted. Personal mobility devices seller Bird Mobility on Tuesday announced new environmental friendly green personal transportation vehicles for the India market. Bird Mobility will be exclusively distributing small electric vehicles (SeV) Gocycle, Ninebot products, Bird Board Drifter scooter, Acton's M scooter, Rocket skate and Blink (power skate board) in addition to the Segway Personal Transporter (PT) in the Indian market. Shourie's comments on Modi personal views: BJP

The BJP termed former union minister Arun Shourie's criticism of the Narendra Modi government's economic policies his personal views, which had nothing to do with the party or public opinion, while also noting he was no longer a party member. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party sources said that Shourie who was being cited as a "BJP leader" had, in fact, not renewed his party membership. Beef 'raid': MPs protest outside Kerala House in Delhi

Parliamentarians from Kerala protested the "beef raid" at the Kerala House and demanded the dish be brought back on the menu of the canteen. "This is an infringement on the rights of the people of Kerala. This is a property of people and government of Kerala. We condemn this police action," said A. Sampath, who represents Attingal constituency. "If the buffalo meat served here is lawfully purchased from the local vendors then why should anyone prevent us from cooking and eating that?" he asked.
