29 April 2019 Current Events Cyclone Fani assuming 'severe' proportions

Cyclone Fani that is taking shape in the Indian Ocean and the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, as per the Indian Meteorological Department. Fishermen living along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry should avoid the risk of venturing into the sea waters till the storm has blown over. Heavy rains and strong winds are expected across Kerala in the next 48 hours. High sea waves (from 1.5 to 2.2 metres in height) may also rise up near the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts. The cyclone is expected to take northwest direction till May 1, and thereafter change direction to northeast. The impact on Odisha is not clear as yet.
