Modi launches Jan Dhan Yojna that aims at one bank account per household

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Jan Dhan Yojana scheme which aims to remove the financial ‘untouchability’ that the poor people of the country have been suffering since Independence. Modi said that people who open their bank accounts before 26 January 2015 will be given an extra life insurance cover of Rs 30,000 and Rs 1 lakh accident insurance.

AirAsia India offers tickets for Rs 600

AirAsia India launched a promotional offer with fares as low as Rs 600. The offer will be available on the bookings which will be made before 31 August for travel between 26 October 2014 and 24 October 2015. At present, AirAsia operates from Bangalore to Kochi,Goa and Chennai sectors.

Bus falls in gorge in Meghalaya, 4 die

A bus fell in a gorge in Meghalaya, taking the lives of four people and injuring 30 others. As per reports, the bus left the Tura district headquarters and the accident happened at around 11 PM near Dollonggre village. The injured people were taken to Tura Civil Hospital.   

CBI books more lenders as its probe widens in Syndicate Bank case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered two enquiries against UCO Bank and Bank of Maharashtra. The enquiries were made against the two banks in connection with alleged irregularities in extending the credit facilities. CBI took these steps to widen its probe in the Syndicate Bank case. It had earlier arrested Director of Altius Finserv Pvt Ltd for bribing S.K. Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Syndicate Bank.

PM and Speaker greet nation on Ganesh Chaturthi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan greeted people on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi which starts on Friday. The PM tweeted 'May Lord Ganesh shower his blessings on all of us and enrich our lives with peace and wisdom.' The Speaker in her message said Lord Ganesha takes away all obstacles from our lives and embodies the virtue of peace, harmony, prosperity and wisdom.

RTI activist arrested for faking death

An RTI activist who was found dead in his car in Greater Noida area in June has been arrested in Bangalore by the Noida police. The accused Chandra Mohan Sharma has been arrested for faking his death and killing a mentally unstable person whose body was discovered from his vehicle. 

Samsung slashes price of Galaxy K zoom to Rs 19,999

Samsung has reduced the price of its handset Galaxy K zoom in India. The device will now be available at Rs 19,999 now than the previous price of Rs 29,999. The exclusive online retailer of the handset, Amazon India has affirmed the price cut. As per reports, the discount of Rs 10,000 will be for few days only but the exact dates have not been revealed.

Sindhu, Saina reach women's quarter-finals of World champoinship

Badminton champions P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal made it to the women’s singles quarter-finals of the World Championship which was held in Ballerup Super Arena in Copenhagen. Saina won the match by 14-21,21-18 and Sindhu won it by 19-21, 22-20, 25-23.

PM pays tribute to hockey maestro Dhyan Chand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to hockey legend Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary which is also celebrated as the 'National Sports Day' in India. Modi in a tweet said that the dedication of Dhyan Chand towards sports will continue to inspire the nation. He also congratulated the sportspersons who have been enhancing the pride of the nation by their performance in their respective fields.

Teacher booked for beating child to death in Rajasthan

A case of murder has been registered against a private school teacher in Dausa district in Rajasthan after he allegedly killed an eight-year-old girl child. The Superintendent of Police of Dausa, Anshuman Bhomia said they have started the investigation and recorded statements of the witnesses.
