29 December 2018 Current Events Amendments approved: Capital punishment for sexual assault of minors now

On Friday, the Union Cabinet gave the thumbs up to amendments in Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO). These changes will enable punishment to go as far as life imprisonment, and even the death penalty. The amendments will now head to Parliament for approval before becoming a law. 

For the first time ever, the amended law will also include perpetrators who molest minors in a natural calamity.


Another encounter in J&K: 4 terrorists killed in Pulwama district

A search operation-turned-encounter in Hanjan of Pulwama district resulted in four terrorists being killed today. According to information by the army, weapons were found on the search site, along with other warlike stores. 

The security forces were tipped off about a terrorist presence in the area, following which the operation was conducted.
