Prosecution demands death for Batla House encounter convict

The prosecution has demanded death penalty for Shahzad Ahmad the lone convict in the Batla House Encounter specifying it was a "rarest of rare case". The final verdict by a Delhi Court on this will be given on Tuesday. Delhi Police Special Cell Inspector M.C. Sharma was killed during the shootout and Ahmad has been convicted for the crime. The prosecution has specified that keeping in mind the society and victim’s family, the convict should be sentenced to death. Ahmad’s counsel had requested the court to take a merciful stance as this crime was not be planned but happened instantaneously and should not be regarded as rarest of rare crimes as it was not directed towards the women, children or helpless people. Also the counsel stated Ahmad should be given the opportunity to reform. On 25th July, Ahmad was held guilty by the court for assault on police officers and causing hindrance in their duty.

SDM's suspension leads to massive protest in UP

The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Durga Shakti Nagpal of Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh was suspended allegedly after she has taken head on the sand mafia though the official communiqué is that she has been suspended due to anomalies in her work. Whatever may have been the reason what has ensued is a massive outrage on the incident with the IAS Association in UP not taking this incident lightly and had a meeting with the UP Chief Secretary with the demand to remove the suspension order. The association also stated that the suspension was not in sync with the rules. It is being said that she was penalized when she gave an order for demolition of a wall constructed in a place in Greater Noida which has got the attribute of being a disputed place of worship. She was suspended under the influence of the mafia.

Supreme Court submits notices to RIL and the Center, will look into the gas price hike

The Supreme Court will look into Government’s decision to hike the price of natural gas which has turned into a controversy and acting on this has given notices to the Centre and Reliance Industries Ltd. The price was hiked from $4.2 per mmbtu (per million British Thermal Unit) to $8.4 mmbtu effective from 1st April 2014. The new price would come for review after 3 months and would encompass all state run and privately owned firms. The Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice P Sathasivam asked for a reply from the government and RIL after a PIL from Gurudas Dasgupta, the senior CPI MP. Dasgupta had an opinion that the process has not been looked into and price was hiked. The Supreme Court felt that the PIL should be considered and cannot be rejected. Thus 4 weeks time has been allocated for the response and the matter will come up for hearing on September 6.

Delhi police to file chargesheet in spot fixing scandal, to name Dawood

Delhi Police is all set to name Dawood Ibrahim in the chargesheet for the spot fixing case. It has stated that Dawood operated through two bookies, one in Pakistan and another in Dubai who in turn handled the bookies here. The special cell of Delhi police is going to name the three cricketers that is Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan and a total of 30 people in the same and they would be booked under MCOCA and IPC. Delhi Police Commissioner had earlier specified that the chargesheet will be filed before his retirement that is on 31st July July. In the spot fixing scandal three cricketers and 11 bookies were arrested in three cities, Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad in May. Subsequently 15 people were arrested from various parts of the country. Sreesanth and Chavan among the 21 people have been released on bail while Chandila and the rest have been given judicial custody.

Akshay Kumar praised by Al Pacino for "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobara"

Akshay Kumar in his movie "Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobara" has got appreciation from none other than Al Pacino, the Godfather. Pacino was referred to this movie by his friend Barry Navidi and Pacino and is said to have admired the theatrical trailer of the movie as it brought back fond memories of his own movie, Godfather. He was impressed by Akshay Kumar’s overpowering presence in the promo. Akshay stated he was humbled by the appreciation and did not have words to express his happiness. The movie has Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan in the cast and hits theaters on Independence Day.

Vodafone offers free access to Twitter

Vodafone customers both prepaid and postpaid have something to rejoice for. They can now avail free access to Twitter. This free offer will be valid till November 1. Through this customers can access the official app of Twitter or the mobile website, that is, without any charges. This facility will not be applicable for usage of Twitter through third-party applications or if anyone clicks any links on tweets which navigates user to external websites. Earlier Vodafone had collaborated with RCom. This facility will be operational automatically and the users don’t need to do anything for this.
