29 July 2019 Current Events PM Modi Releases 2018 Tiger Census on the Eve of International Tiger Day

As per tiger census report, in India the tiger population has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018. Moreover, in one of his speeches while releasing the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 on Monday, July 29, 2019, PM Narendra Modi confirmed that nine years ago, St. Petersburg had set a target of doubling tiger population by 2022. Luckily, India has fulfilled its target 4 years early, of saving its endangered species while balancing its development needs. Interestingly, the PM added that the results declared by our tiger census department has made each and every Indian citizen proud and it is a time of celebration for the nature lovers. The 2018 tiger census was conducted by the Wildlife Institute of India (Dehradun) using 15,000 technologically advanced camera traps. Highest number of tigers was reported in Madhya Pradesh, at 526.
