Rahul targets Modi during Delhi Rally

Rahul Gandhi, Vice President of Indian National Congress, during a rally in Delhi raised verbal attack on BJP and hit out at Indian PM Narendra Modi by saying that the latter has spent Rs 10 lakh on suit with his name on it during US President’s India visit but failed to keep his promise to bring back black money. He also made scathed attack on Modi by accusing him of compromising India’s stand on Nuclear Liability bill.      

GNLF Chief Subhash Ghising Passes Away

Subhash Ghising, who spearheaded the violent movement demanding different state for Gorkhas in hilly areas of West Bengal during 1980s, died in a Delhi hospital yesterday at the age of 79 years after prolonged ailment. His body was flown back to Darjeeling for final rights. Ghishing’s, Gorkha National Liberation Front chief, 28-month old bloody movement for Gorkhaland came to an end after backdoor maneuvering followed by tripartite meeting between the then Union Government of Rajiv Gandhi and Left Front led West Bengal government through the formation of autonomous Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council.

RBI Deputy Governor vouches for Technological Advancements and Portability of Banking Accounts

SS Mundra, Deputy Governor of RBI, has vouched for technological advancements in the banking sector while speaking at an event organized by a leading daily newspaper. While addressing an audience of leading bankers of the country, RBI’s Deputy Governor mooted the idea of portability of banking account numbers, drawing similarity to mobile number portability.

India Post in Major Rejig Mode

Available reports say that India Post is planning to launch its own eCommerce website that will work as an online marketplace for buyers and sellers. Though the initiative is in the planning stage, Postal Services Board member John Samuel said that it will be live in the coming 6 months. It is learnt that this initiative is within the modernization plan of IT infrastructure in India, where funds to the tune of Rs. 5,000 crore has been allocated along with additional Rs. 2000 crore for fast product and post delivery.

J&K Governor stresses on Implementing 'Make in India'; Indian Inc. emphasizes on R&D

Per spokesperson of J&K’s Raj Bhavan, NN Vohra, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has asked Khurshid Ahmad Ganai (Financial Commissioner, Industries and Commerce) to take all possible measures including finalisation of J&K’s Trade and Industrial Policy to implement ‘Make in India’ initiative a success. India Inc. giving due importance to research and development for giving India the well needed push of technical innovation. While retired Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan is all set to invest $50 million on brain-inspired computing, Sterlite Technologies is setting up an annual seed fund of $1 lakh to promote R&D in broadband deployment.  

Vijendra Singh Not to Play during National Games due to Injury; Boxing India Boycotts Event

Vijender Singh, ace Indian Boxer, told media that he is not going to play in the National Games, which is due to start tomorrow, because of injury. He said that the nose injury that barred him from participating in the Asian Games has flared up again during his training. He hopes to come back to the rings after some time. It is learnt that Boxing India is also boycotting 35th National Games in protest of Indian Olympic Association's denial to recognise it.

Delhi Assembly Election gets Interesting with Nearing of Election Date

Amit Shah has announced plan of holding 250 party rallies and roping in 120 MPs to campaign in Delhi before February 7 election. He vouched for publication of vision document instead of poll manifesto. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief of Aam Aadmi Party, has referred to BJP’s poll advertisement showing photo frame of Anna Hazare with garland and asked BJP to apologise for ‘killing’ the social crusader. Congress leader Ajay Maken has reportedly said that his party will not support AAP in forming government this time. A reputed online media brand, owned by RIL, has indicated that AAP is heading towards a landslide victory.

Indian Bourses Witness Turbulent Session

BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty reached all time high today during morning trade on sustained market optimism and strong inflow of funds. While Sensex breached previous high of 29,786.32 points and reached 29,844.16 points, NSE Nifty rallied to 8996.60 points early today. However, the euphoria fizzled out soon and both the bourses bled massively. While Sensex fell by 448 points, Nifty broke 8850 support level (a crucial psychological barrier). Both Nifty and Sensex slid because of massive losses in stocks of metals, FMCG, consumer durables,and banks. TCS, ICICI Bank, HDFC, and HDFC Bank were the biggest losers.

SpiceJet's Management Rejig and Revival Signs of the Troubled Airliner

SpiceJet’s management board has approved sale of its existing majority stake holder, Kalanithi Maran, to Ajay Singh, co-founder of SpiceJet. Per the deal, 58.46 per cent stake of the former will be sold to the latter through issuance of securities and allotment of non-convertible preference stocks. The deal is expected to raise $242.6 million, equivalent to Rs 1,500 crore. S Natrajhen, Kalanithi Maran, and S Natrajhen have also resigned from the board with immediate effect. Reports indicate that Super Sale Scheme of SpiceJet became an instant hit with the customers as 400 per cent increase in ticket registration was reported on very first day.

Coal India's 10 per cent Stake Sale Begins; Around 30 Per cent Stocks Booked till Afternoon

BSE data shows that till 1:50 pm IST today 18.82 crore stocks of Coal India out of the total 63.16 crore stocks (10 per cent stake of Coal India put on disinvestment) were subscribed by the bidders in the auction market. Till afternoon trade, 29.81 per cent of the total number of stocks was subscribed. Coal India wants to raise around Rs 22,600 crore funds through this stake sale. At 3 pm, stock of Coal India was trading at 361.40, a fall of 13.55 points or 3.61 per cent from previous close.

Jayanti Natarajan Revolts against Congress Leadership and Quits; Congress Rubbishes Allegations

Jayanti Natarajan, ex-Environment Minister of UPA2 government, today resigned from Indian National Congress after making scathing attack on party’s central leadership, especially vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Natarajan alleged that she was sidelined, humiliated and at the same time vilified by the High Command. In a letter sent to Sonia Gandhi, Jayanti indicated that she was made to quit Environment Ministry at the behest of Rahul Gandhi and never given an explanation of suddenly sidelining her from party affairs. However, Jairam Ramesh of INC rubbished Jayanti Natarajan’s allegations by saying that Rahul never interfered with works of the ministry.

Mukul Roy Finally Appears before CBI for Interrogation on Saradha Scam; Sleuths Grilling General Secretary of TMC

General Secretary of TMC, key organizer of the party, and most important person of Trinamool after Mamata Banerjee, Mukul Roy, finally appeared before Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning on Saradha Scam. Before entering Salt Lake’s CGO Complex today in the morning Mukul Roy told media that he will cooperate with the CBI investigators. Right-hand man of Mamata deferred CBI’s summoning twice. CBI is grilling Mukul but entire TMC is apprehensive about his arrest as some of its present and former leaders including Madan Mitra, Rajat Majumdar, Srinjoy Bose, Kunal Ghosh, and Asif Khan are already behind bars.
