PM Modi assures sugarcane farmers on kharif MSP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given assurance to the sugarcane farmers at a meeting at his residence that the Union Cabinet will approve the minimum support prices (MSP) at 150% of input costs for Kharif crops at their next meeting. This move from the PM's end came after the farmers agitation on the issue of lack of announcement of MSP rates. MSP is generally announced in early June, at the beginning of the monsoons when the sowing by the farmers begins.

IMD issuues warning of cyclone in Maharashtra, Gujarat amid heavy rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings in the state of  Maharashtra and Gujarat as cyclonic circulations has been noticed over the northeast Arabian Sea off north Gujarat coast at upper levels and the east-central Arabian Sea off south Maharashtra coast at a higher level.

Amarnath Yatra suspended, schools closed post flood alert in Jammu & Kashmir

The bad weather and heavy rains caused critical flood situation in Jammu & Kashmir leading to closing of schools today in the Kashmir division. The Amarnath Yatra has also been postponed seeking the current situation. The flood alert was announced after the water level of the Jhelum river reached above the critical 21-feet mark at Sangam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday.

Monsoon takes over India 15 days ahead of schedule

The monsoon season has taken over the entire country 15 days in advance before the reported schedule of India Meteorological Department (IMD). The reason quoted for this is the good easterly winds that have caused this phenomena over the entire country early. It has reached Sriganganagar in western Rajasthan, southwest monsoon’s last outpost today. The normal date  for the monsoons onset in Sriganganagar is July 15.
