30 October 2017 Current Events Nation to observe Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on 31st October

Nation will observe Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Various events will be organised across the country to mark the 142nd birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the main event at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi where he will flag off Run For Unity.

About 15 thousand people will participate in the Run. People from all walks of life ex-servicemen, students, athletes, NYKS volunteers, NSS volunteers, Central Armed Police Forces, Delhi Police will participate in Run for Unity.

Ministry of Culture will organize Debate, Quiz, Essay Competitions, Special Lectures on National Unity and Integrity. States and Union territories will organize State-level functions at respective capitals and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is coordinating with the local administration to organize functions in 623 districts.


Heavy rain lashes several parts of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry

The North East Monsoon is intensifying in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Heavy to rather heavy rain is being witnessed in several parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Nagapattinam districts since early this morning.

The Meteorology Department in Chennai has predicted heavy to rather heavy rain in most of the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and at isolated places in interior districts for the next two days. Its Director Mr Balachandran told reporters in Chennai today, the upper air circulation off the coast of Srilanka persists in the same area since yesterday, leading to the rainfall.

In the geographical areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Kerala, North East Monsoon commenced by the 27th of October.
