India wins 2 Golds; Sarita Devi loses on Controversial Judgement

Till now India has won 44 medals (6 Gold, 7 Silver, and 31 Bronze) during Asian Games 2014, securing 9th spot on the list. China still tops the list with 249 total medals (118 Gold, 74 Silver, and 57 Bronze). In Tennis Mixed Doubles, Sania Mirza-Saketh Myneni duo won gold. In Discus event, Seema Punia won Gold. In lighweight Woman’s semi finals, Sarita Devi of India lost to South Korean player in a controversial judgement. Men’s Hockey Team and Mary Kom in Woman’s Boxing cruise ahead to finals.

GLA Class Launched by Mercedes Benz in India

Mercedes Benz has launched GLA Class in India, which is expected to compete with the leading vehicles such as Volvo V40, Land Rover Evoque, Audi Q3, and BMW X1. Ex-showroom price of this vehicle in Delhi is between Rs 32.75 lakh and Rs 36.9 lakh. As per Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, the SUV segment is becoming very popular in India. 

Punjab becomes Decentralised State for Procuring and Distributing Grain

Foodgrain procurement burden will lessen as the Punjab government has been allowed for the next few months to purchase as well as distribute grains in advance to beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (NFSA). During these months, the Centre only restricts itself to footing subsidy bill.

Navy's Warship Vessels Reach 140 Vessels; 41 More in the Pipeline

Indian Navy’s fleet has swelled to 140 after commissioning three frontline warships in the span of last 6 weeks. There are 41 more warships in the manufacturing stage including INS Vikrant, 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier. All these warships will join ‘Blue Water’ navy for influencing across Indian Ocean.

RBI keeps Repo Rate Unchanged; Estimates Higher Growth Rate for 2015-16 Fiscal

RBI Governor keeps repo rate under Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) unchanged at 8 per cent during its 4th bi-monthly monetary policy. Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) of Net Demand Time Liabilities (NDTL) for scheduled banks was kept unchanged at 4 per cent. During the current fiscal year, RBI’s estimated growth rate of Indian economy is 5.5 per cent. However, during 2015-16, the growth rate is expected to increase to 6.3 per cent.

Energy Sector to get $1 billion of Investment from the US

India is awaiting investments to the tune of $1 billion in the Energy Sector from the US companies. It is one of the sectors that is going to gain the maximum from Narendra Modi’s US visit. Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency is going to sign an agreement with US Exim Bank for financing sourcing of components from Indian renewable power project developers from the United States. Financing will take place over a time period of 18 years.

Microsoft announces 3 Data Centres for India

During his visit to India, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella announced setting up of three local data centres in India. They will be operational by 2015-end and provide cloud services from its Azure and Office 365 stack to local business and government clients. 

India-US Joint Vision Statement Issue for boosting Strategic Ties

Barack Obama and Narendra Modi have vowed to deepen and expand strategic partnership between the two countries so that it becomes a model for the other countries of the world to follow. A joint vision statement has been issued by the US President and Indian PM after their meeting during the White House dinner. The concerned vision statement has been named 'Chalein Saath Saath: Forward Together We Go'.

Jayalalitha's Bail Plea Adjourned till October 6 by Karnataka High Court

Former Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa will have to spend at least another one week behind bars as her bail plea hearing has been adjourned by Karnataka High Court to October 6, 2014. This has taken place because of the confusion surrounding appointment of public prosecutor. Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani is arguing for Jayalalitha.

New CM of Tamil Nadu Swears in with Tears in his Eyes

O Panneerselvam has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on September 29 after J. Jayalalithaa has been forced to step down from CM’s chair by the special Court of Bangalore that convicted her on charges of corruption and Rs 66.65 crore Disproportionate Assets case. The 30 members who were already in AIADMK’s cabinet have also been sworn in along with Panneerselvam. It is the second time Panneerselvam has been assuming CM’s chair in TN in the absence of Jayalalitha.

Shiv Sena's Lone Central Minister to Resign

After the collapse of 25-year-old Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, Union minister Anant Geete - the lone Shiv Sena minister in the NDA government – is all set to resign from the Union Government. He is awaiting return of Narendra Modi from the US to handover his resignation paper. However, alliance between the two parties in local and civic polls is expected to continue at least for now.
