31 August 2013 Current Events Government seeks consensus only in distress: Arun Jaitley

 

BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that a larger consensus is needed on the economic issues. He accused UPA government of looking for accord only in time of distress. "There is a need for a larger consensus on economic issues. It emerges out of political environment, which is broken and fractured by the government," said Arun Jaitley. He further added, "If the govt expects consensus only on economy, then it is daunting and challenging. The govt seeks consensus only in distress," while replying to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement on India’s economic situation. He said that the entire world is warning that India is in a state of policy paralysis.


Rajasthan BJP lawmaker seeks anticipatory bail in riot case

 

Anita Singh, Rajasthan BJP legislator moved a court seeking anticipatory bail in the 2011 communal violence case in Bharatpur district in which 10 people died. Anita Singh's lawyer, AK Jain said that the legislator was booked for hindering government servants in doing their duty in the midst of some other charges. The anticipatory bail was filed in the district judge's court and the hearing will be on Monday.


Mercedes raises car prices in India

 

German automobile company Mercedes-Benz India said that they will be increasing prices of their entire range by 2.5% to 4.5% from 1st September 2013. The decision came due to the sharp depreciation in the value of rupee, accompanied by high import duty and increasing input costs. Eberhard Kern, managing director and chief executive, Mercedes-Benz India said, "Rising input costs along with higher import duties have been creating significant pressure on our bottom lines for quite some time now".


Wipro unveils IT solutions for aviation industry

 

Wipro launched a range of information technology solutions in partnership with Qatar Airways for the aviation industry. It contains two categories of enterprise as well as mobility solutions. The enterprise solutions include various products for crew management, loyalty management, route profitability analysis, aircraft maintenance planning, in-flight catering and crisis management. Also mobility solutions include products for cabin crew, pilots and flight dispatchers. A company statement said that these products will help airlines fill the gap holes in the IT applications sector and provide an edge over the competitors.


Odisha to host Junior National Basketball Championships

 

The 64th National Basketball Championship will take place at Cuttack from 1st to 8th September. It will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium and the competition is between junior men and women. The tournament is organized by Basketball Federation of India (BFI) in alliance with Odisha Basketball Association (OBA). Total 46 teams, 23 boys and 23 girls, will be participating from various states in the event. The format in which the championship will be followed is a league cum knockout format.


Plans to shoot 'Riddick 4' in Rajasthan

 

Director David Twohy and actor Vin Diesel have almost finalized the deal on "Riddick 4" and are taking into consideration, the state of Rajasthan as a prime destination to film some essential parts of their fourth movie. Considering the need to create a different planet look, the producers and actor feel that Rajasthan would provide the perfect backdrop for their fourth franchise venture. The third edition of "Riddick" has already premiered in the US and will hit Indian screens on 6th September.
