As per reports, a special court has sentenced seven years of rigorous imprisonment to former Jharkhand Minister Hari Narayan Rai. This is the first case of conviction in the country under anti-money laundering laws. Rai has also been fined Rs 50,000 by the court.
The case was brought into limelight by the Enforcement Directorate in September 2009.
Reports say that Rai has laundered funds to the tune of over Rs 3.72 crore.
As per reports, former Minister of State E Ahamed has been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohiya hospital in Delhi after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the central hall on Tuesday where President Pranab Mukherjee was addressing to both Houses of Parliament. 78-year-old Ahamed complained of uneasiness and breathlessness and his condition is said to be critical.
He was given first aid by the Parliament staff but as his condition worsened, he was rushed to RML hospital. Reports say prime minister Narendra Modi enquired about his condition, while Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Development Of North East Region Minister Jitendra Singh visited the hospital to enquire about the minister's health.
