31 October 2018 Current Events Heavy Fire Broke out in Thiruvananthapuram

In a plastic factory heavy fire broke out in a plastic factory in Thiruvananthapuram. There are no casualties so far. Fire emergency units from from Trivandrum airport has come to take control of the situation.


Statue of Unity unveiled by the Prime Minister: Birth anniversary of Sardar Patel

Built at a cost of nearly 3000 crores (INR), the Statue of Unity was unveiled today morning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The PM arrived in Ahmedabad Tuesday night, ahead of the scheduled inauguration. Saying that he wanted to work on the project since he was the CM of Gujarat, Modi added that  he felt "fortunate to dedicate this statue of Sardar Sahab to the nation". The statue, standing 183 meters tall, is now the tallest statue in the world.


Rupee continues on the downward spiral: fell by 40 paise more

Amid increasing demand for US Dollars, the Rupee dropped by another 40 paise on Wednesday morning. The value of Rupee stood at 74.08 in early trade.

Traders have said that the plummeting value comes as a combined result of USD's strength against some currencies, as well as, the tensions from the government-RBI rift. Crude oil prices, however, have stayed more or less stable, preventing the Rupee from falling further.
