17 August 2019 Current Events GI Tag Honour for the Prasadam of Palani Panchamirtham

As per recent news updates, a temple named as Palani Panchamirtham located in the city of Palani, Tamil Nadu has been awarded with prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Interestingly, temple is honoured with such tag because of the 'prasadam', it serves to its worshipers. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce on Friday, August 16, 2019 confirmed to the news agencies that GI tag is given to the temple because of its special Kerala's Tirur betel leaf. Additionally, this move will prove to be fruitful for the producers of betel leaf as they will be able to charge the maximum for their produce. Furthermore, similar GI tag is given to Mizo Puanchei and Tawlhlohpuan from Mizoram. GI tag given to these products are a clear indication of the distinctive quality of these products belonging to a specific location.


Arvind Kejriwal: Free Bus Rides For Women in Delhi

As per recent news updates, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has recently announced that from Tuesday, October 29, 2019 onwards, the CM is planning to make public transport free. This initiative  will benefit women riders in the capital city New Delhi. Meanwhile, on Thursday, August 15, 2019 on eve of Raksha Bandhan, Kejriwal has confirmed that this scheme will be applied on the DTC buses. While delivering his fifth Independence day speech in Chhatrasaal Stadium, Arvind Kejriwal assured women that he is finally fulfilling his first phase of promise towards his sisters. Interestingly, he said that these free rides will be a Bhai Dooj gift.

Chandrayaan-2 Left Earth's Orbit Early on Wednesday

In the wee hours of Wednesday, around 2:21 am, Chandrayaan-2 left planet Earth and crossed planet Earth's orbit to infiltrate towards Moon. ISRO tweeted that it has successfully conducted the 'trans lunar injection' (TLI) manoeuvre. It is also reported by the Indian Space Research Centre that the spacecraft would travel for almost 7 days in order to get closer to the moon.
