26 February 2016 Current Events LG G5 scheduled to launch in India in next quarter

Today, LG announced that it will be launching its G5 flagship smartphone in India in the next quarter. The LG G5 has already gained a lot of traction due to its innovative removable battery and modular design. The smartphone sports a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with an always-on display technology. This feature allows users to check time, battery status and other important notifications. LG G5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of in-built storage that can be expanded via a microSD card.


Lava Twinpad 2-in-1 Hybrid launched at Rs. 15,999

Today, Lava launched its Twinpad 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid running Windows 10 operating system. Priced at Rs. 15,999, this 2-in-1 hybrid will be available across all national retail stores, e-commerce websites and multi-brand outlets. Targeting students and working professionals, Lava Twinpad 2-in-1 is a single-SIM supporting 2-in-1 tablet with a 10.1 inch WXGA (1280x800 pixels) resolution IPS display, a detachable keyboard and a stylus.

Skoda Superb hits India showrooms today

Skoda is all set to launch its most anticipated car, the new generation Superb today in India. The 2016 Skoda Superb is equipped with a new design and a range of cosmetic updates. Having made its debut in Prague, the Skoda Superb is gearing up to make its first official appearance into the Indian market. Shatabdi trains to have semi-high speed coaches

The Rail Budget 2016-17 includes a gradual replacement of bogies of Shatabdi Express with the ones that are used in semi-high speed trains. Additionally, there will be state-of-the-art furnishing of coaches along with Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging of linens. Retrofitting of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches is also slated to feature in the Rail Budget 2016-17.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 set for March 3 launch in India

Today, Xiaomi announced the March 2 launch of its Redmi Note 3 in India. The company would be launching the note at an event scheduled to take place in Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi. This new variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 SoC along with a fingerprint scanner placed towards the back side of the note.

Petroleum Minister urges farmers to produce Green Energy Biofuel from Agricultural Waste

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Oil and Petroleum Minister, while speaking at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology during a review meeting by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, has urged farmers to produce green energy bio-fuel from agricultural waste. He also said that Odisha farmers can themselves earn Rs. 500-Rs. 600 crore through biofuel production from agricultural waste. Urging Odisha government to send a proposal to the central government on production of biofuel, Pradhan said that Odisha produces around 3 crore litres of ethanol every year.

LIGO Hanford Observatory Head says LIGO India to be Operational by 2023

LIGO Hanford Observatory head Fred Raab said that India’s own Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (which detected gravitational waves, giving legitimacy to Einstein’s century old theory) will be technically feasible for operation by 2023-end. Establishment of LIGO-India has been given in-principle approval by the Union Government. Three nodal institutes responsible for building and operationalising LIGO India are Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, and Institute of Plasma Research (IPR) Gandhinagar.

Honda Cars India Ltd. to recall cars from today

From today, Honda Cars India Ltd. would be recalling its City, Jazz and Civic models that have been manufactured between January 2012 and June 2013 for replacement of faulty airbags. Carried out free of cost, this replacement would be held at Honda Cars India Ltd. dealerships across India in a phased way via direct communication with the car owners.

ISRO Orbiter to scan India's air

The Space Applications Centre (SAC) of ISRO has collaborated with Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) of University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies on developing the ‘Next Generation Earth Monitoring and Observation and Aerosol Monitoring’(NEMO-AM) satellite. This nano-satellite will be monitoring suspended particles and aerosols that have polluted the air of Indian cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Allahabad.  

Ringing Bells to launch Rs. 500 smartphone in India tomorrow

Sporting a price tag below Rs. 500 (i.e. approximately $7), Freedom 251 is intended to improve the lifestyle of Indian population with a low income. Chandigarh gears for online registration of immovable properties

In an initiative to plug revenue leakage, reduce dispute and to ensure customer welfare, the UT Administration has come up with a project wherein the entire record available with the UT Estate Office, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), Municipal Corporation and Group Housing Cooperative Societies will be integrated in a software that would be developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Each property would have a unique file along with a number and electronic signatures would be used for transferring and registering immovable property online.

Apple to open development centre in Hyderabad

Technology giant Apple has officially announced opening a development centre in Hyderabad. This office would accommodate a whopping 150+ Apple employees in addition to supporting maps development. Additionally, there will be space for several contractors who will look into the development that needs to be done on a local level.

ISRO announces privatization of PSLV operations by 2020

Regarded as a revolutionary change in India’s space scenario, the operation of ISRO’s four-stage Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will be privatized in the next four years i.e. by 2020. While making the announcement, ISRO chief AS Kiran Kumar also informed the integration and launch of PSLV will be handled by an industrial conglomerate via the commercial arm of ISRO, Antrix Corporation.

Infosys rolls out incentives for top performers

As India’s first company to have offered stocks to its employees in 1990s, Infosys is planning to roll out a new stock incentive plan for both mid-level and top-level executives. The company is looking forward to allot 1-1.5% of its equity for creating a stock pool for the top executives. Infosys would seek approval for the same in the forthcoming weeks.

President Mukherjee says India to draft Science and Technology Policy by 2020

President Pranab Mukherjee honoured winners of Infosys Science Prizes and said that the current “Science, Technology and Innovation” policy was finalised 3 years back. He said union government will begin the consultation process so that a science and technology policy can be formulated by 2020 to strengthen self reliance of India. The policy seeks to develop effective technologies and also promote scientific research.  Scientific research in future will revolve around finding solutions to waste management, water scarcity, clean energy, etc.

ISRO working to Build Electric Propulsion System for Satellites to Carry more Payload

Dr. K. Sivan, Director of ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Thiruvananthapuram, has said while addressing a seminar at HEMCE 2016 in Hyderabad that India’s space agency is currently working on electric propulsion system for satellites that will help in carrying more payloads. He also said that ISRO will launch GSLV Mark III in December 2016 and will also launch Chandrayan 2 (with a rover) as soon as possible. Manned space flight project - Abbot Machine – is also in the pipeline.

Metros to trim commute times by up to 30 minutes

Delhi’s Metro matrix is geared up for an interchange revolution which would decrease commute times across the national capital and its neighbouring cities. That would mean the commute from Gurgaon to Noida would take thirty minutes less and likewise going from Janakpuri to Faridabad and Dwarka to Lajpat Nagar would save thirty and fifteen minutes respectively.
