Following the telecom regulator’s regulation barring the discriminatory pricing of data services, Facebook has taken off Free Basics from India. Reliance Communications’ decision to make Facebook’s Free Basics platform a paid one has been the backbone of the announcement made by Facebook. A huge disparity between Facebook and critics on the Free Basics matter has led to the pulling out of Free Basics from India.     


New WhatsApp emojis for Android users

WhatsApp has already started rolling out new emojis in its latest version 2.12.441, exclusively for the Android consumers. These emojis include a range of facial expressions like rolling eyes, upside down smiles and a lot more. Family emojis like two boys and two women, two women and two girls are also on the list of newly introduced emojis.


Vodafone 4G Services now in Bengaluru

After introducing its 4G services in Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Kerala, Vodafone today launched its 4G mobile services in Bengaluru. Vodafone 4G network would be initially available in some of the most prominent business and residential corridors, including Electronic City, Jayanagar, J.P.Nagar, Basavangudi, Whitefield, Bangalore International Airport, Chamrajpet, B.T.M. Layout and Koramangala. With the Bengaluru launch, Vodafone has completed its first phase of rollout of its 4G services.

Sony Walkman NW-A25 comes to India

Today, Sony announced the launch of the Walkman NW-A25 high-resolution audio player in India. Priced at Rs. 13,990, the audio player is available at all Sony outlets. With five different color options (black, blue, pink, red and yellow), the Walkman NW-A25 comes equipped with an internal storage capacity of 16GB (expandable via microSD card-up to 128GB). The device has a 2.2-inch TFT-LED screen and supports an array of audio formats like mp3, wma, he-aac, aac, wav, flac and Apple Lossless.

Vodafone 4G Services now in Mumbai

After launching its 4G Services in Delhi, India’s second largest telecom operator Vodafone India has rolled out 4G Services in the country’s financial capital Mumbai. Vodafone 4G SIM cards are now available at all the fifty six retail stores spread in different parts of the city. Consumers are expected to exchange their old SIM card to receive a new 4G ready SIM card. Vodafone 4G has been launched in 1800MHz band.

LeEco eyes to be among top 3 smartphone companies in India

Formerly known as LeTv, the Chinese Internet company LeEco is watching out for achieving its niche among the top three smartphone companies in India by the end of 2016. Launched last year in China, LeEco has already sold over four million smartphones and three million televisions in its home market. Already the number one online brand in China, LeEco is exclusively available on Flipkart.

Hyderabad lab develops world's first Zika virus vaccine

Scientists at a lab in Hyderabad said that they have developed the world’s first vaccine against the Zika Virus. As per media reports, the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Limited has said that it has patented the Zika vaccine. The outbreak of the Zika virus has been reported in more than 20 countries in Latin America. The virus, which has suspected links to birth defects, has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.   

Panasonic India launched new headphones

Panasonic India has unveiled two new headphones. As per media reports, the two new headphones include the Panasonic HD5, which is a hi-res headphone and BTD5 – a Bluetooth headphone. The Panasonic HD5 hi-res headphone costs Rs 9,490, while the BTD5 bluetooth headphone will be priced at Rs 6,490.

Indo-French Joint Exploration of Mars, Venus on Cards

Chief of French space agency (Centre national d'études spatiales - CNES), Jean-Yves Le Gall, said that after India successfully put their Mars Orbiter Mission – Mangalyaan – on orbit, France is willing to support India’s next mission for exploring Mars as the former has knowledgeable scientists for Mars and Venus. He said India’s MOM mission showed how smart work can help in manufacturing low cost space missions and went on to call it a good example of Make in India's low cost manufacturing.

Infosys Founder Murthy suggests Innovative Solution to help India take a Technical Jump

N R Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, has asked India to forge agreement with US in sending 10,000 students every year to the US for coming 50 years for pursuing PhDs in most important areas such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) with the clause that the students have to come back to India to serve country for at least one decade. While addressing Indo-American Chamber of Commerce Conclave 2020 in Bengaluru, Murthy said that it will cost India around $5 billion every year.

Oppo F1 comes to India

Today, Oppo launched its camera-focused F1 smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 15,990, Oppo F1 will be succeeded by its variant called the Oppo F1 Plus which is scheduled to arrive in April and would be available at a price of Rs. 26,990. The Oppo F1 supports dual-SIM and runs on ColorOS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 SoC.

BlackBerry Priv now available in India

Today, BlackBerry launched its first Android smartphone Priv in India. Already gone up for pre-orders in October last year, BlackBerry Priv has been priced at Rs. 62,990 and will be available via Amazon India and a range of offline retail stores from 30 January, 2016. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based BlackBerry Priv comes with a 5.4 inch QHD Amoled display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 418 GPU.

ISRO Director says Space Technology will Transform India in coming Years

Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), K Sivan, at an event organized by PSG and Sons charities on its 90th Founders Day in Coimbatore, has said that space technology will play an important role in coming years to transform India and vouched for application-based learning in space technology. Sivan said VSCC has come up with 1/6th size of actual reusable launch vehicle (to be showcased in April) that will help in space tourism.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing 13th Convocation of Lucknow’s APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, said that cyber crime has become a concern all over the world and went on to remind that if science and technology are not used correctly they can pose threat to the society. Singh referred an article of The Guardian which said that the same young talent can be termed creative if he serves a renowned company but can be termed destructive if belongs to terrorist organization al-Qaeda.

ISRO successfully launches IRNSS-1E

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) successfully launched Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS-1E), India’s 5th navigation satellite on PSLV-C31 from Sriharikota space centre. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the scientists by saying that this successful launch has made India proud, President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the team of scientists for their effort. ISRO’s Chairman S. Kiran Kumar said that positioning of this satellite will help India get positional accuracy for starting indigenous satellite navigation system.
