Over 450000 Yahoo email addresses and passwords have been leaked online by hackers belonging to a group called D33Ds Company. The information was posted on a public website with a message to not regard this as a threat but a wakeup call. The details of Yahoo site was not specified though it is being perceived that Yahoo Voice is the targeted site. The risks will be more if people are using the same login details for other Yahoo sites. 

It is said that Yahoo Voices did not use stringent security measures like they did not hash passwords or demanded complex strings.


Micromax launches Android Smartphone for Rs. 8490

Micromax has launched the Micromax Superphone A80 Infinity at an attractive price of Rs. 8,490.The configurations include Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS, 800 MHz processor, 3.75-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, and a 2500 mAh Li-ion battery with a standby time of 288 hours and a talk-time of 7 hours plus a dual SIM option.  The camera has features like multiple video recording formats; multi shot options, night vision setting, and camera sensor. Other features include 512mb RAM, 0.3 megapixel camera, and internal memory expandable by 32 GB with a microSD card.

Facebook launches App Center in India

 

Facebook has launched its App Center in India which is part of its move to target 80% of its 900 million users who reside outside the US and Canada. This will help the users to find media content, games and music services easily. The App Center was launched in the US last month.

FB has informed that the App Center has led to millions of app installations. Facebook itself does not host apps but redirects users to relevant stores. The App Center tab can be seen in the left panel of your home page. This feature is also available for Android and iPhone users. 

Google's business practices to be probed by Competition Commission of India?

 

Competition Commission of India (CCI) is said to have launched investigation into Google's alleged anti-competitive practices. This was stated by CUTS International, a consumer policy research and advocacy group, which submitted a complaint against Google. 

CUTS in its complaint on June 8 has specified that Google indulged in abusive practice by using its leading position in Indian market.  That the search giant delivered biased search results and in the process attracted traffic to its services. The smaller companies suffered as Google supposedly manipulated its search algorithms denying them an opportunity to score in the online domain. Google has stated they are not aware of any such investigation and have not received any communication from CCI. 

It is the responsibility of cable operators to provide set-top data: M-I&B

The cable TV regulations have been amended by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (M-I&B) by incorporating a new amendment. This makes the multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs) responsible for  authentication of data on set-top boxes and its deployment.It has been initiated after the authorities realized that due to the cable operators there was postponement of the cable digitization deadline by 4 months now to October 31, 2012. There were inconsistent data provided by the service providers specially the MSOs regarding inventory status and deployment of set-top boxes. 

The amendment known as Incorporation of rule 10A will be one of the terms and conditions of registration of cable operators and MSOs. Failure to abide by this and in the event of non-submission of required information, the central government will have the power  to cancel or suspend the registration of cable operators or MSOs.

Canon launches a range of video cameras in India

Canon the Japanese major has launched a range of video cameras in India which target Bollywood and broadcast segment. With an aim to expand in Indian market, Canon has announced its entry into the cinematography business. Three cinema EOS advanced range cameras, including the EOS C300, EOS C500 and EOS 1-DC coupled with eleven new cinema EOS lenses was launched.  

Canon Professional Services has also been introduced which will offer membership to chosen few media houses in Mumbai and Delhi. The company intends to provide better service to the busy pro- photographers for whom down time can mean critical loss. 

Malware may make it an offline day on Monday

It may be an offline day on Monday, July 9 as thousands of computers can be hit by DNSChanger malware as the temporary fix to control the malicious software expires on that day. What is more challenging is the fact that many users won’t be able to know whether their systems have been affected until and unless they open their computers on Monday. 

More than 21000 Internet protocol (IP) addresses are infected in India which makes it the third largest affected country by this malware.The DNSChanger virus changes the names which makes the internet inaccessible as DNS and DNS servers cannot be operated by Internet service providers

Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 610 to be launched in India

Nokia India is poised to launch two new Windows Phones , the Lumia 900 and Lumia 610 in India. The “Dark Knight Rises” edition Nokia 900 comes with ringtones, special wallpapers and limited edition Batman or Bane character images.

Lumia 900 configurations include Mango the Window OS, 1.4 GHz processor, 8 MP rear camera plus 16 GB of internal memory coupled with 4.3-inch AMOLED display.While the Nokia Lumia 610 has a 3.7-inch display, an 800MHz processor, a 5MP camera and 8GB of internal storage.

Google's Nexus 7 in India in October

Google’s Nexus 7 tablet made in partnership with Asus will be launched in India in October this year. This is the first Nexus branded seven inch tablet which has Google's unmodified Android operating software. The tablet has 8GB internal storage and is priced at $199. Asus has not disclosed the price for which the tablet will be available in India as this with other specifics like exact configurations will be decided in September this year. As it is low priced compared to other models in the US it seems Nexus 7 can be one of the most cost effective high end tablets in India.

3G pocket router for Rs. 5,800 by BSNL

BSNL launched a third generation (3G) wireless pocket router in collaboration with communications solutions provider Shyam Networks.The 'Winknet Mf50' router will help in connecting more than one device using a single SIM card. The best buy price is of Rs5800 for the router. It is SIM locked with BSNL and comes with a plan of Rs 60 with 1 GB free data usage.
