The Aquarium near Bahu Fort on the hill top is run by the fishery department and is a new edition to the garden. The fish-shaped aquarium is the largest underground aquarium in the country and hosts an impressive collection of fish.
I wasn't too sure of visiting this place, but I ended up spending a lot of time here. There are not enough aquaria in the country. It was a novel treat.
The aquarium is 22m in length and exhibits around 400 species of fish. It also has a small museum attached to the end of the aquarium. The centre promotes aquatic awareness. Visitors can take away the beauty of the aquatic world that we otherwise rarely get to see because of human follies.
Some of the more attractive fish found here are:
Pirhana, yellow parrot, labeo rohita, neon jewel, silver arowana, sucker catfish, shark catfish, red shiner, bubble eye, black moor, cyprinus carpio etc.
