Tepania Eco Park is fast becoming a favourite tourist destination in Tripura. It is located 5 kms from Udaipur, on the Udaipur-Agartala road. Established in 1995, inside Radhakishorepur Reserve Forest, the park has been upgraded over the years and it now covers an area of 155 hectares.
The park is around a 10-minute’ drive from Udaipur. A bus dropped me at the entrance of the park near the main road. I reached there early in the morning, before the park could be opened. I gave my reason that I had come a long way and was leaving for Amarpur at noon. I was allowed to enter the park. Not far from the entrance I was greeted by a beautiful tree house. Every kid fantasises about living in a tree house, so it brought back a lot of childhood memories. As I went deeper, I found a lot more tree houses in the park. A tree house can be acquired for a day at Rs. 200.
The park also has an Orchidarium which housed up to 225 species of orchids. It was a dry season and I didn't expect to see many as these wither in dry and cold season. The room was stacked with all kinds of orchids. Some of these have been brought from Kalimpong and Coimbatore. A little further from the Orchidarium, I stopped at the Cactus House which has a collection of 250 cactus samples.
There are picnic spots around the park. Picnickers can even rent a kitchen for Rs. 50. The shades provided by the thick wood covering are just the perfect place to rest, especially in the heat of the day. The park also provides fine cottage accommodations to tourists and visitors for just Rs. 150 per day. Tepania Eco-Park also has wooden hanging bridge and watchtower.
On my visit I could spot many animals. Maybe I didn't go deep enough to do that but I did see a lot of avian species and monkeys. But according to the official report, Tepania Eco-Park is a secure haven to a handful of animals like capped langur, red jungle fowl, hares and varieties of reptiles. Some common trees found here are sal, gamar, mahogany, jarul, neem, kanchan etc.
The park is complete with a cafeteria right at the entrance. It also has a water body, bamboo forest and a children enclosure to add more spice to the Park. The fact that it is located so close to the city makes this park very accessible and a priceless treasure to city dwellers.
